its pretty simple really and my advice to you would be to expect NOTHING from the rest of 2009. My life got a lot less frustrating when I started watching the Eels of 2009 with the attitude that we may well not win another game because we were basically useless and injuries weren't helping matters either. This way you MAY be pleasantly surprised with the occasional win that comes our way. You'll also be happy to see any young guys come through that put in a good show without worrying about wins and losses, because believe me, there ain't going to be many wins in 2009. And don't make the mistake of seeing us win (or draw) with a good performance and think we'll turn that on the following week because a good showing is more likely to be a one off with this current lineup.

We have a coach with plenty of potential coaching a side that he wasn't able to have any say over recruiting or retaining. And we've copped a fair whack with injuries as well. I'm not making excuses, but we need a cleanout and its not going to happen before the end of the season. The less you expect each week the better for your health.

Everyone seems to be happy pointing at Hagan, but I think that is a little short sighted.

It is called the Brian Smith Curse - the teams that he has coached in the NRL have not won a premiership with him or after he has left!!

I am hoping that the great master coach Bennett can exorcise the demons for St George thereby breaking the curse for Parramatta as well.

I honestly think that Smith stayed on too long at Parra. When he left there was a vacuum. Jason Taylor, a Smith devotee filled in superbly for half a season, then in the 'Emperor's wisdom chose to have Hagan pave the way for a new beginning..........

The rest is history............

Dennis Fitzgerald needs to shoulder much of the blame as does the old board...... an old stale thought process took over the place...................

We have a new board, a good coach, and some promising young players to build a side around.......we will be right................

When we do win the premiership it will be all the more sweeter because of all of this, and I would go as far to say that this whole process will strongly contribute to making us a good football team is every sense, from ability, effort, on and off field behaviour.

Look...Im not going to disagree with anything you have said, because you make great points..... I just want to know who is going to stick their hand up and take responsibility for the place where the Club/Team is currently at....

There is no better thing than hindsight 20/20 vision.......and if we all had that then Jason Taylor would probably still be coaching at Parra...

But I defy anyone on this forum to say they thought JT would produce what he has untried.....Sure I would have gone with him 2 months later than we chose our coach (for dumbass reasons), but life goes on...you cant blame not picking JT for where we are now

well I think the coach will take a degree of responsibility but he can only be held so accountable. I think Hagan can get blamed all we like, and it will be completely deserved, but he's now in the media, has run a million miles from the place, and has no accountability because he's gone, so its all a bit pointless talking about him now.

There'll be plenty of players taking the fall as soon as Ando can find them the door.

Chipmunk,

I am not saying JT was the answer, not at all, what I was mainly trying to point out is the stale and out of touch attitude that Dennis Fitzgerld developed through a weak and passive board is the primary source of our current day problems.

The winds of change are blowing.......we will revisit glory again and when it arrives it will be all the more sweet......

DA was handed a sinking ship with Hagan's playing roster and coaching staff. Be patient. I'm confident he can re build the place.

This is the most negative bunch of Parramatta supporters I`ve encountered in my 40 years of following the club. I want to know why; and I want to know now!:lol::lol:

Beautiful! That`s exactly right. And with that philosophy in mind, I really enjoyed last night`s game. Wasn`t overly disappointed with the loss, and saw a lot of quite average players out there trying their guts out and bleeding for the blue and gold. Absolutely fantastic! I`m a child of the sixties, though; so I got used to that. In fact, following Parramatta has always been like that - except during the late seventies and most of the eighties. We never were a Manly or Canterbury or Saints where we`d be in the finals almost every year. Over our long history, we`ve mostly been a team of battlers. If people can`t handle that......well, there`s always another team to follow. :)

All I can say, is be patient; because when it comes, when you win that first grand final - man, is it good! I can`t imagine how good it must feel for the players and coaching staff, because just being a 'tragic' supporter, it`s the most amazing feeling! Hang in there. This coach, I believe, is something out of the box. I can smell it, you know. It smells just a little bit like it did in the early seventies when we had Ian Walsh and Norm Provan coaching us and putting an aura of toughness around the team. It wasn`t too long after that, we challenged for the title.

interesting interview from DA after th game

he said simple instructions were not being carried out, like kicking over the head of one of their backs who was obviously carrying an injury

he blamed our play makers in the second half

Driving home last night (well, early this morning), I couldnt help but think back to the woeful 90's. I sat in an empty Parra Stadium every home game, just knowing that a drumming would come. But I kept going back coz you could see that the boys were trying. The only thing that frustrates me about this current mob, compared to the boys of the 90's, is that this lot are "professional" (I use that term very loosely).

I remember being a season ticket holder in 93/94/95 .......those were dim dark days I hoped we'd never see again ......sadly we are back to those times , and even sadder these players are getting 4 times the money those guys were getting in the 90's .

This year is going to be a bugger of a year, but we have made changes with a new coach, we have a new Board, now we need to get the team right ...

Players who are not up to standard need to move on, so hopefully they make the hard decisions and get the right players and build a system where we do not pay overs for juniors until they prove they are worth it.

We have an average reserve grade team or reserve players playing first and that comes to the player retention and recruitment that we have been doing since god knows when ...

Look at Hawthorn in AFL, the coach said they built a new structure on retention and recruitment, dogs have bought a new team but now they have paid players what they are worth, we need to do the same.

18 months to build a winning culture ... so next year we will start the judge DA, if there are no signs of improvement then make decisions about how good or bad a coach he is then ..

I prefer to judge his efforts onthe teams on field performance at 2011 given that he's hardly had a say on what he wasnts for 2010.
