Thommo Calls on Fans for Support at WIN This Weekend
30 July 2003
It's getting towards a must-win situation at the Dragons so it'd be great if we could get a huge crowd of St George Illawarra fans at WIN Stadium for Sunday's game against Penrith, says captain Lance Thompson in his Illawarra Mercury column today.
Here's an excerpt of what else Thommo had to say in his weekly column.
This is going to be a huge match for us - we need to get back on a winning track after our 36-10 loss to Parramatta last Saturday night.
We'll be needing as many fans as possible in the crowd cheering us on.
We are depleted at the moment - no Jason Ryles, no Trent Barrett and now no Mark Gasnier as well has taken its toll in the latter stages of the season.
Other teams are starting to kick away because they've got their strongest team on the field. Our young blokes have been doing a great job and they've gained plenty of confidence from their experiences and hopefully it'll show on Sunday.
The Panthers have been sailing along this year but we nearly beat them when we played them at Penrith a few months ago.
We made 11 line breaks that day but we didn't capitalise on all of them and it cost us in the end. It's a shame that Gaz is out injured this weekend because I think their centres would still be having nightmares about him after the way he ran around them last time around.
If we come out of the sheds firing and get off to a good start on Sunday, I'm confident we can come away with a win.
