Thoughts on proposed PAT rule changes?

Will make the game far more interesting IMO.

Moving the PAT to the fifteen yard line should determine the outcome of a few games this year you would think, especially in stadiums like Lambeau, Gillette, Heinz, Century Link and Sports Authority. All outdoor stadiums and ones subject to more extreme weather conditions late in the season.

The one I like is the D can score off a turnover on a two point play. That will be up there with a safety IMO as one of those plays that will bring the house down.

Panthers perspective:
lining up further back shouldn't be an issue for Graham Geno
Gano has been very good statistically from 30-39 yards. In 2014, Gano hit 92.3% of field goals from that distance going 12 for 13. Over Gano's career he has made 28 of 37 in the 30-39 yard range. Of the 9 field goals that Gano has missed in the 30-39 yard range 5 of them have been beyond 35 yards.

as for taking the two? with Newton, Tolbert, Stewart, Olsen, Benjamin and now funchess as options to get it in I can think of one man that might gamble on that.

I do like the addition of taking it back for the two, gives the defense something more to aim for.

I don't like it at all, the last thing I want is to place more onus on kickers to decide games.

I understand the notion that the plays themselves are automatic and add no value, but to me rather than trying to artificially create interest in the play, wouldn't we be better off just making TDs worth 7?

I mean how pissed off are you gonna be if your team marches the field late in the 4th and scores a TD, only to miss the game tying PAT?

I don't think making kickers more relevant is the way to go

Disagree on that one. Makes the kicker more valuable and skill and fatigue become a factor in part of the game that required what could be considered an elementary level (for pros). The weather conditions also become a huge factor.

If the O and D have to give their all, why not have special teams earn their keep as well?

Like I said, you're placing more emphasis on kickers deciding games, if you like that sort of thing then great, me I prefer to see the offensive and defensive units decide games.

Of course special teams have a place, but I don't really view kickers as football players so I don't want them to have any more influence on the outcome of games.

I think you're overstating the fatigue element, I mean we're talking about the same number of plays.

I should add some context to the fatigue part of my argument. In OT, you can visibly see both the Offense and Defence breathing hard, especially in adverse conditions. I want to see clutch plays from the kickers instead of the usual kick from the two yard line that rarely misses. Taking the PAT back to the 15 yard line adds more skill to the PAT, instead of the current yawn fest.

For me, it's more the two point play and the ability for the D to take the two points on a turnover. It will create some crazy good plays in the future IMO. You might see a few more Music City Miracles...

I wish they'd just do away with it, give teams one play from the 1 yard line, for the chance to earn 2 more points. I like the defensive stuff though, if you can take it back to the house, why not give them 2 points for it?
