Hi All,

Just a plug to let you know a cyber-Eels team I coach has made the Grand Final of their competition... :D

And you can be in the crowd!! The Cyber Rugby League 3 Grand Final will be held in real time with updates online at http://www.aussiepub.com/pubforums/viewforum.php?f=19, from 8:30pm this Thursday (17/6).

The games are played through computer simulation based on player ratings, game plans and interchanges. You can go there and watch the grand final unfold set by set, or even create a user profile there to make comments throughout the game.

My team is entirely made of up Eels players, except for the addition of Willie Tonga, Lee Hookey, and Scott Geddes. You can even go there now to read about (and contribute to?) the squad's grand final preparation...

Remember, Thursday 8:30pm kick-off!! Cheer on the cyber-Eels vs cyber-Storm for the CRL3 title.... \\:D/

As long as you don't pick bloody Wagon at 5/8 again. LOL.

Bear in mind that it's been a while since Parra got to a GF, let alone WON it. But Bart ain't no Smithy. He's more of your Jack Gibson type, ie sucessful!

Tues 15th (2 days to go)

Today marked the Parra cyber-Eels open training day, where fans were welcomed into Parra Stadium to watch the team go through their Grand Final paces. They were treated to some backline drills, kick/chases, and some forward defensive drills, in addition to an all-round endurance session.

Afterwards, players mingled with their fans for one more time, signing autographs and receiving words of encouragement. Captain Cayless summed up the day, "We are nothing without our fans and their support. While all the players really want to win this title, we also want to reward our fans who have waited so long for this."

The town centre has gone Grand Final crazy, with many shops and stores decorated in blue and gold. Those old grand final staples, the blue and gold loaves of bread, and blue and gold sausages are available at bakers and butchers. Lord Mayor Julia Finn said "It's really good for this city, and we all hope the cyber-Eels can do us proud on Thursday."

LOL - Wagon length of the field chip-and-chase try! Guess he didn't have to pass that way!

Wags had a brilliant game! Alas, a win was not to be. Final score Cyber-Storm 22 - Cyber-Eels 18. A valliant effort at any rate

Bloody Melbourne  .....Bartman, u r no better than Smithy

One question....not that it changes the outcome or anything....but since when has a penalty try resulted in 2 conversions?....a penalty try is just a try under the sticks and one kick at goal when the try is stopped by an act of foul play....8 pt try is a different matter, ie the try is scored, then an act of foul play after the try.

How is the game actually played?

Nice to see you checking it out Strider.

Basically, it's worked off a base of player ratings in certain sections of the field (eg front row, halves etc) in comparison with their opponents. Ratings alter with certain directions in the game plan, and by directing interchange players to certain positions.

Points are scored/conceded when there is a large enough descrepancy between the opposing players ratings during that portion of the game.

Yeah Stryder, I probably should be using the term 8 point try to describe what happened.

Remember that Grand Final (Storm v Knights/Saints?) where Ainscough tackled a guy in mid air as he caught a bomb in the in-goal with a few minutes to go? Bill Harrigan conferred with his colleagues and gave the 8 point try. I was sitting at the game right in that corner, and thought it was a bit rough at the time...

No it wasn't an 8 point try in that grand final Storm v St George....it was a penalty try - only 6 points....Ainscough hit him high trying to make a ball and all hit, knocked him out, the guy dropped the ball (ie the try was never scored), but the video ref believed Ainscoughs foul play prevented a certain try, thus the Storm were handed a penalty try (and a premiership) under the sticks (cos thats where penalty tries are always awarded), one kick at goal.

That's right, they had to kick it from under the sticks... was getting confused between that and the 2nd kick for an 8 point try.

I thought Ainscough/Saints were hard done by, and had my suspicions about a favourable refereeing run through the finals that year for the Storm. :-k

Absolutely - the Storm were handed a premiership by a string of very favourable refereeing decisions in EVERY finals game they played.....the only conspiracy theory I have given alot of credence to over the years :D
