WESTS Tigers forward Bryce Gibbs has been charged with assault following a "minor altercation" last night, according to the joint venture NRL club.
The incident was minor but such breaches of club policy would not be tolerated, Tigers chief executive Steve Noyce said. "Wests Tigers sets the highest expectations for the conduct of all its players," Noyce added.
"In fact we were the first club to introduce our own random in-house drug testing.
"We consistently provide training in responsible alcohol practices and a number of our players are involved in driver training programs in schools."
The club would not make further comment until legal proceedings were finalized, Noyce said.
Gibbs, 21, was the victim of high tackle in May from Manly forward Kane Cleal, who was suspended for five weeks.
The tackle was thought to have been an act of retribution for an incident in the 2002 SG Ball grand final, in which Gibbs broke Cleal's jaw.
