Tigers not snubbed: Prince
May 20, 2006
WESTS Tigers halfback Scott Prince won't have a bar of talk that representative selectors have snubbed the NRL premiers.
Rather than whinge about his team receiving just one selection for Origin I, Prince has called on his Tigers to pull their fingers out and start winning.
And that starts with today's match against the New Zealand Warriors in Auckland.
"Selectors look at winning sides. So as a side, if we're going to have any luck with rep teams in the future, then we're going to have to pull our finger out and win a few games," said Prince, who played the last of his three Origin games for Queensland in 2004. "Not only for rep selection, but for our club as well to get us entrenched in the top eight. I think the rep stuff looks after itself when you're playing well."
The Tigers currently sit 10th with four wins and five losses entering round 11.
NSW fullback Brett Hodgson was the lone Tiger selected for Origin I this week. Hodgson, prop John Skandalis and hooker Robbie Farah featured in the City-Country Origin match last week, while Benji Marshall and Paul Whatuira represented New Zealand in this month's Test against Australia. With North Queensland No.7 Johnathan Thurston playing well, Prince admits his chances of a Queensland recall were always going to be slim if selectors opted to keep Darren Lockyer at five-eighth. "But in saying that, it's a three-game series, and I've just got to put my head down and work hard," said Prince.
They left out Boof for Country Origin but Prince is not having a good 2006 so far. Bit of wishful thinking for him if you ask me..
