Tigers to sue NRL, maybe

balmain and magpies fans have a right to be upset. anyone who cant understand that is just utter selfish. they were told 14 teams would be the way to go, so they merged. i think whats dissapointing about this for balmain , magpies and even st george (not illawarra), is that these teams were there since 1908 (the year rugby league began). and they were lied to. they do deserve some sort of situation here. and this is more than an apology.

i unlike the bias , propagandarish , one eyed fans here can see it from both angles.if the sharks were to merge with parra, while i would still support them, my heart would not be there fully and if the parramatta sharks were told to merge on a basis, and then this basis was changed, then the whole merger was no point in the end.

wests were struggling but are now fine, balmain werent struggling and are still fine. if they want to split (which would be a huge call) , then i cant see 1 reason to deny them from this.

im bbsf, and thats just my opinion.

How much of the 12 million+ that the Wests Tigers got from the NRL has made it so both those clubs are now fine especially Wests also the fact that they have had a club in the NRL would've played it's part in ensuring that now the Wests and Balmain clubs have a little more money.

Balmain's premier league side has merged with Ryde-Eastwood so all can't be too rosy on a financial level.

Balmain may have survied for a couple more years but Wests were dead.

It doesn't matter what the situation is now it mattered what was happening in 1999-2000 when the two clubs actually merged.

Both sides were looking to find a partner anywhere as they realised at the time they wouldn't survive.

Manly were forced into merger at the time cause they knew they wouldn't survive then in time they became financially viable again at took over the merger and came back as a single entity, but had Manly gone it alone from day 1 (1999) then they wouldn't be in the 1st grade comp in any form.

Nobody forced Balmain and Wests to merge. South Sydney had the same gun pointed at their heads, but even then decided to go it alone. Wests (and especially Balmain) could've done exactly the same if they'd wanted to, would've meant more people marching in the streets and more likliehood that they would still be playing as a single entity (or single entities) now. The Wests Tigers have no-one but themselves to blame.

I will always be a Balmain boy at heart but I openly accepted we had to merge to survive. I even like who we merged with and feel after a rocky start we are starting to become a strong club.

I still think Noyce had to make this comment. Can he ist back and say nothing. He represents Wests and Balmain who will have members who feel ripped off. Noyce has to make soem comment.

I even think the NRL should compensate us further. But in the end we will stay in the comp. But we have every right to voice our opinion. Those of you who say we shouldn't voice our opinion are idiots. Every team has a right to make a statement.

I don't even think it is anti Gold Coast. I just think they are saying we had an agreement and you have broken it. We couldn't care where the team came from.

I've got no problem with any club voicing an opinion about a decision. I do however have a problem with a club dragging the NRL back into court because they don't agree with a decision that will actually benefit them in the long run.

Some of you just try putting yourselves in anothers situation, say a Wests or Balmain fan thats supported his team for 20, 30, 50 even 70 years....yes thats right there were supporters that were lost by the forced merger that had followed their team for over half a century. 50 plus years of support, only to have their teams lied to and then stabbed in the back.

....you dont think losing those fans FOREVER didnt hurt RL?...Idiot!

Naaah, its OK....stuff those loyal fans, we'll replace em with some new ones.

A loyal fan wouldn't do a runner on rugby league though :? You may have lost some bandwagon fans, not loyal ones.

thank you Steve Noyce for saying what the majority of wests tigers fans are thinking at this time. but please, leave it at that. by all means complain to the nrl, make sure that they know that we're not happy about being lied to and being encouraged/forced to merge, but no court action. lets move forward.

Fact: We merged under the premise that there would only be 15 teams

Fact: In 2007 there will be 16 teams

Fact: 3/4 of the people in this thread were not affected by the merger situation and do not understand the situation at all

Fact: Compensation and/or reinstatement (in the extreme case) are realistic options

Super post. Obviously not everyone on here is completely geniused.

All those having a go at the Tigers (who aren't really going all out, just saying that they'll disappointed by the sudden backflip on NRL policy) really have no right to attack them.

When Souths got back in, the Dragons and Tigers received a small amount of money as compensation. This is a way of voicing their disapproval and alerting the NRL... "time for a little more compensation", which both Joint Ventures will surely receive.

I hope that those attacking the Wests Tigers will one day experience the loss of their club first hand.

what sort of bandwagon fans would jump on the teams who came last and 5th last? they jump on the teams winning like the sharks

i no a passionate fan paul finnaran who used to love the Balmain and was there everyweek. hes been to 2 WT games since. he just said its not the same, its not balmain. it wasnt just bandwagon

people who say WT merged its there own fault r kidding. they woudl of been kicked out and u cant expect them to want to be kicked out and then fight to be back in, too much of a risk (1 south sydney took and i guess paid off, but still it was a huge risk)

What this highlights is the absolute stupidity of the "culling of clubs" concept that occurred from 1997-2000.

The "first 14 past the post" idea resulted in us with a comp that lost in all areas... we lost expansion clubs, heartland clubs and traditional clubs.

Sydney doesn't need the Rabbitohs. Rugby League needs a Central Coast team. Move the bunnies up north.

(maybe merge with North Sydney)

Thank you Mr Noyce for standing up for the Balmain & Wests supporters.
Some of u people don't know what its like to have a club you suppoted with passion ripped from you. And what for? so they could then stab us in the back. F U NRL.

Balmain may have a chance, but the Magpies would have to relocate to the CC.

Wests have the backing of two very successful leagues clubs.

Balmain had to merge with Ryde Eastwood to maintain their existance.

Wests and Tigers fans are pissed off? Noyce wants to express his displeasure at being lied to etc? Fine and dandy... totally understandable, but threatening court action is a f**king disgrace. The last thing the code needs is the though of another law suit hanging over their heads.

Don't waste your time on them young fella - they get their opinions from the Telegraph. The facts haven't got a chance.

1. The tigers shunned parramatta because it wasnt a joint venture, it was parramatta with a tigers logo (because fitzy hates the eel)
2. It was Whittaker.
