Tigers to sue NRL, maybe

Without dis-respecting the feelings of any fans of joint-venture clubs pre "merger", the NRL has been talking seriously about a 16th team for over a year now.

That is when Noyce or his equivalent (Doust?) should have been speaking out on your behalf, and talking of betrayal and legal challenges, not now as the NRL's announcement is finally made.

Not wishing it on anyone else, but unfortunately it's a reality in the modern, professional, commodified game. You just have to do the best thing at the time under the rules that apply at that time. All clubs looked after their future in the best way that they say fit.

Bartman speaks sense.

I think that Wests and Balmains fans should concentrate on making their joint venture as successfull as possible and not think about sueing the NRL, or a de-merger. There appears to me to be a lot of "Wests" or "Balmain" feeling among the punters and not much "Wests Tigers" spirit. Get rid of the factionalism and look to the future.

so you think it's a good idea to take it back to the courts? do you support the wests tigers first or rugby league first?

and read my post before making judgements - i never said stuff the tigers/magpies/bears etc supporters. I just don't want them to take our game to the courts again.

Idiot!

If you read my post after the one you quoted you'd see what my thoughts are re: WestsTigers and court, I dont think they will, I think its Noyce making a statement on behalf of Wests Tigers, Balmain and Wests and that will be that.

This game stinks to high heaven at times, I support my club.....thats how I support the game.

Its OK when the game hurts itself by screwing 50, 60 year plus supporters but when a CEO of a club stands up for the clubs fans and takes a stand against "Our great game".....thats taboo eh?

No fans=no game.

Just to point out that Noyce has stated numerous times in months gone by that the Tigers would not support expansion to the Gold Coast.

Yes, we, and other clubs, should feel betrayed right now, though I doubt it will go through the courts. If so, it will be a matter of principle.

a pathetic insult from an old man. that is a classic.

Old Man? Still more than got your measure you arseclown. Lets see, you come on here and post the biggest load of sh*t with not a single one of your assertions being anything close to right. I point out you don't don't know your arse from a hole in the ground by posting the facts and AlexM the keyboard hero comes back with the classic insult:

you dumf**k!.

oh dear, I'm so shaking with fear.

Just to help you get some small measure of education in your sad and pathetic little life I post a few more facts. Clearly your insecurities are so overwhelming that it would be far too much for your almost non-existant sense of self worth to bear to just admit you were wrong. Hell you could have just saved yourself further embarassment and shut the f*ck up, but no you're too stupid to know when to quit. So you come back with the mightiest keyboard hero comeback you could manage.

oh you're on fire! I'm surprised death rays didn't leap from my monitor and strike me dead where I sit. And now for the coup de grace:

oh please, I surrender. I'm outgunned, you've clearly got a mind not to be trifled with.

Just imagine what you could do if you had both halves of your wit.

I think it is clear that the NRL needs to ensure regional areas have a football team covering the potential market to keep out other codes.

I am all for the Gold Coasts reinstatement as Qld needs more teams to keep Rugby League the number 1 winter code and help keep state of origin alive.

In my opinion (remember its my opinion, you are free to disagree or discuss),

The Sydney (city) area only needs 1 team, the Roosters.

The Central Coast is the missing Eastern Coast link and needs a team. Norths want into the comp, Souths need a home ground, both are foundation clubs. So a merger + NRL incentives of $8 Million dollars +, Gosford leagues club incentive of $3 million is a very attractive deal and makes sense.

The Illawarra, a city of 200,000+ people deserves a fulltime team, and the Sutherland Shire aleady has the Sharks. So I think the dragons should play more of their games at WIN.

The growth area of South Western Sydney areas including Campbelltown, Narellan, Oran Park, Camden and the soon o be developed mega city of 200,000 homes at Bringelly needs a local side.
The Wests Tigers (though I'd prefer Magpies) need to build up a following and a successful club in the Macarthur region ready to tap this new mega market. unfortunately the Leichart area is all but dead, the leagues club is broke and the stadium is falling down.
I am all for Wests playing 1 or 2 home games a year at Leichart but the rest need to be played at Campbelltown to build a loyal fan base. And hopefully as the area expands a new mega stadium gets built (maybe at Oran Park as it will become more central to the region) or the Campbelltown one gets massive upgrades because there is the potential for mamoth crowds.

The future of Wests is at Campbelltown (more precisely the Macarthur area), facts need to be faced, and the ground work needs to be laid down now. The people of the Macarthur arn't stupid. They know when they are being dupped, and will turn to Soccer, AFL or god forbid Yaw-nion. Playing at Homebush does nothing to help build loyalty and passion.

I can say that your childhood experiances greatly influence your life preferences. My dad took me to a Western Suburbs magpies game in 87 to the old Orana Park, and since then they have always held a soft spot in my heart. The same for the children now who went and watched the tigers beat Canberra. But if they're left alone, the marketing of the other codes may come in and take them away from Rugby League forever. We can't let that happen.

Our children are our future,
the children are at the Macarthur,
Macarthur is the future for Wests.
Wests wont you come home!

well thats a bit unethical.

Dumping the inner city area like balmain-leichardt is not the way to go. You just have to remember that Birchgrove is located in Balmain and that was the birth of Rugby League in australia in 1908.

But lets have a look at the difference between the Tigers and the Magpies in terms how many premierships both clubs have won.

How many premierships has the Balmain Tigers won from 1908-1999? 11

How many premierships has Western Suberbs Magpies won from 1908-1999? 4

I'm not talking about the past (though I admit heritage needs to be an important part of our game, hence 2 games a year at Leichart) I am talking about the future, and the future is in the population growth areas like the Macarthur region.

but hey, its just my opinion. Your perfectly entitled to yours.

The one thing people wanting to move clubs here there and everywhere to cover all the blank spots on the map fail to take into account is the emotion/passion without this football is as good as dead. Why you want to weaken Sydney by moving clubs etc isn't it better to have as many people/clubs as possible involved in the game?

Both teams would be dead if it wasnt for the merger by now. Let them seperate and see how long they last... fools

I doubt that very much. Many teams throughout the history of RL have struggled financially but managed to survive infact Cronulla were threatened with extinction in 1983 and 1986 and are still with us.

Yeh let them seperate if we have to put up with Souths why not the tigers and Magpies?? At least the battle for the wooden spoon would be a 3 way event.

another clown with all the facts at his fingertips eh?

In 99 Wests had 1 run down 50 year old leagues club at Ashfield, and another at Campbelltown which had only just been redeveloped from a 1 room shack.

In 2005 Wests have 2 virtually brand new leagues clubs that each made over $9.5 mil (Ashfield 9.5, Campbo 10.1) in profit in 2004. You do the math nob jockey. If we had been allowed to hang on for a few more years as the likes of Cronulla were thanks to their ill-gotten filthy lucre then we'd be sitting pretty right now. Not many clubs with that sort of backing in NSW. Dogs, Roosters, Panthers and maybe Eels. We got screwed because we invested our dough in a sustainable future.

Balmain on the other hand would struggle, but who knows? Necessity is the mother of invention, they could find a Max Delmege. Certainly Triguboff and Ryde-Eastwood could be candidates to secure them. Leichhardt continues to draw good crowds despite the Tigers continued ineptitude. No reason why they couldn't be like Manly. Can't for the life of me see how that makes the competition weaker.

There is still a part of me that would love to have conferences like the NFL....have a Sydney conference and the out of towners conference.

You would have the best of both worlds.....you can have yer city state teams play and Sydney would get back its "go to every game" tribal feel again.

Im sure all the global game peeps will shout this down, but I think we can have the best of both worlds,Sydney could have as namy teams as it could sustain, and all the regional teams would play all over the country........would love to see a final series with the top 4 from both conferences....the rivalries would be intense.

Cheers.
