Did Tigers play a very young side in the second half, or did Souths kids play a top game? I was expecting a bigger margain...

Both teams can take a lot out of that.
I wonder if thats the same sean playing for Manly reserve grade???????

Hopefully he can get a crack at 1st grade sometime this year with the Tiges. Not a bad player, just behind a few wingers at Manly.

I was hoping for a 60-0 scoreline. Winning by 4 points against a 2nd string Souths is hardly inspiring.

But playing in 40 degree heat wouldn't bring out the best in anyone though.

With the alleged emphasis on defence during the off-season it was nice to see we allowed 26 points. That's actually more than what we've averaged during Simmons' tenure. Staggering how he's still employed.

I would take trial results with a grain of salt.... you're just lucky not to have any serious injuries.

I don't care whether we win or lose trials. But they made a big fuss at the end of last year about how the focus would be on defence during the off-season. To come out and let in 5 tries first up, albeit in a trial, doesn't fill me with confidence for the rest of the year.

In the first half we conceded one. We shouldn't have, it came from a kick during a trial though. Wouldn't get too upset just yet. In saying that we basically had all the football and field position as would be expected.

Haven't seen Meaney play in years but he impressed me a lot back in the junior days. How did he play?

I was at the trial and ill tell ya right now, winning was on the very bottom of the list for the Tigers. They were very clearly just out there to try some combinations and see how guys work together, suss each other out ect.

We put out a strong team in the first half followed by a team made up of BRET & NYC players in the second half. Defense was very impressive in the first half, the boys moved as a unit and were constantly calling each other out into a line... something we have not done very well in the past. When Mighty Mouse was at the back he didnt shut up at any point, talking to the line and telling the boys where the shortages were... very impressive. In attack Gareth Ellis is gonna be a crowd favourite, the man hits and hits hard in both attack and defense... he also has quite a lot of pace and has a brilliant off load however it looked like none of the boys knew he possesed such a decent off load as nobody was running off him... i would expect to see Lawrence score a few trys off Ellis offloads this year. Benji looked great at halfback, he needs to stay there the whole year no matter what.

Pleasent surprises included Matty Davidson, i dont know how he is this fit after his Lukemia last year but man he was good ! Sean Meany impressed me as did Rhys Hanbury & Nathen Waters.

I think there are some good signs out there for 2009, bring it on !

Tiger Hawk - the main squad only let in 1 try and it was a fluke richochet, there defense was encouraging. It was 16-6 at halftime when the main squad walked off the field.

I was at the game, and must say that with Heigno, Galloway, Laurie and the Ellis, I don't think you guys have to worry about not having some size on the field this year.

An injury or two and we are f**ked though.

And we do have to worry about the lack of a halfback, and a mediocre fullback who will no doubt get a free ride into the #1 jumper.

Thats exactly how I saw it.

We actually have some beef this year.

Add Payto and the skills of Farah and Fulton and we have a pretty bloody good side.
