The inaugural Jim Beam Cup decider will be contested at 2pm, Sunday at Telstra Stadium between The Entrance Tigers and the Wentworthville Magpies. These two teams have been the top teams throughout the season and their grand final appearance is both deserved and fitting.
The Entrance Tigers have undisputedly been the standout team this year despite entering a unfamiliar competition. The Entrance have established a 16 match winning streak and have only lost two matches all season. They hold an undefeated record over the Magpies, though Wenty came close to claiming a defeat in the teams 24 all draw at Ringrose Park in round 16.
Despite these records, that may overawe a lesser team, the boys in black and white will go into Sundays game confident of victory of which they are capable of, boasting a more than formidable side across the park. Wenty’s stars include Jim Beam Cup player of the year and top tryscorer Scott Ella, five eight and captain Jacob Byrne, and in the forwards the likes of Adam Capovilla and Hayes Lauder. Wenty also boast a solid bench including the man mountains Siose Muliumu and Jack Mazzoleni who have troubled many sides this year.
The Entrance meanwhile are a team who rely more upon team unity than individual brilliance though will be boosted by the return of linchpin five eight Gavin Westwood. His return sees Scott Salter move into the halfback role with Matt Smith retreating to the bench. The only other change for Matt Parish’s men is the addition of Tane Tutaki on the bench to combat the huge Wenty bench along with the tough Steve Ekepati.
Jamie Forbes, Entrance captain and former country player of the year, will be confident of bringing the cup home to the Central Coast who have united as one in supporting the Tigers.
Jason Robinson is in control of this match after controlling the Premier League match between the Raiders and Dragons last weekend and delivering a fine performance.
