Following the strong win over Parramatta at the Sydney Football Stadium last night, Wests Tigers Coach Tim Sheens has agreed to a new one-year deal with the club.
Off contract at the end of this season, the new deal takes the current Australian coach out until the end of 2011.
Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys said he was delighted that the Wests Tigers Board endorsed his recommendation on Thursday night to extend Sheens’ contract.
“Tim is the ultimate professional and his vast experience and expertise are massive assets for our club,’’ Humphreys said.
“We are thrilled that he has agreed to extend his tenure as our head coach. Tim is held in the highest regard by everyone at Wests Tigers.
“He represents our club with distinction and has built a culture that we are all very proud of.”
Sheens expressed his pleasure with the contract extension.
“We have a tremendous squad of players and a very experienced team of coaches at Wests Tigers,’’ Sheens said.
“I am very excited about our prospects and I look forward to working hard in achieving success for this club which I love dearly.”

oh well, for better or worse its been decided now. Thankfully only 1 year. The spell Teflon has over the WT club is amazing- mediocrity is rewarded yet again.

“He represents our club with distinction and has built a culture that we are all very proud of.” I fully agree, except for the fact his record of winning with the club and making the finals is not good- at best only an average caoching record for premiership success. Having said that, he has, along with the players and the WT management, enforced a positive and seemingly happy enough band of players- provided you are in the favoured group- that keeps WestsTigers competitive but not necessarily premiership contenders. Maybe 2010???? Hope so.

In the Terror Graph today it quoted him as saying (im quoting this from memory so it wont be spot on) "I asked the board for a 1 year extension as I really want to work with this group of players, If I cant make it happen by next year I will step down"
