Newcastle Knights owner Nathan Tinkler shows off weight loss at team training session

THE incredible shrinking man and Knights owner Nathan Tinkler joined Wayne Bennett at training today at Hunter Stadium ahead of tomorrow night’s opening round clash against the Dragons.

Tinkler, who lured Bennett north from St George Illawarra in a massive coup last year, was looking markedly slimmer. Reports of lap-band surgery have been denied, however.

The billionaire mining magnate and coach both looked relaxed and shared a few jokes during their five-minute chat before Bennett put his Knights through their paces.

Also there were Hunter Sports Group CEO Troy Palmer and Newcastle assistant coach Rick Stone.

Tinkler then stayed for the entire session and was joined by Knights CEO Matt Gidley.

The Knights will start strong $1.55 favourites against the Dragons at $2.40 who will be out to prove a point against their ex-coach who led them to the premiership in 2010.

I don't understand how rich people can be fat. I like to take care of myself but if I had that sort of money I'd have a chef, nutritionist and personal trainer working for me.

What's the point of being rich if you're going to drop dead at 50. You'd want to live longer and enjoy more of it.

I hate the bloke for stealing Bennett from us but good on him if he is getting healthier. Unless he turns around and does what that other fat billionaire Clive Palmer did in soccer, he'll be good for the Knights and good for the game. Therefore hopefully he does live a long life.

Tinkler had to lose weight to fit into the Bathurst Porsche that ran 4th in the 12 hour.

I noticed this too when I saw him on Fox Sports news. Good for him, everyone should be fit and healthy.

Bennet was never going to souffs.

I can confirm this comment....Before Bennett left the Dragons I ask the big man himself when I met him at the Gong...
Me: Excuse me Wayne.
WB: Hi
Me: Now that you are going to the kinghts, did you ever consider going to the bunnies?
WB: It was on the table but I never consider it.
Me: Oh thanks for settling my bet...

We had a good long chat about other topics and then I left him alone with his mates...

I'm sure his problem is more the quantity of food, not the quality

I never wanted Bennett!. Souths have chopped and changed coaches 7 times in 11 years, No wonder we could never get any sort of form going and it does got to do with our rosters in recent times also but I'd much rather have a young guy in Maguire who should be coaching the team in 5+ years time. Bennett is good for short term success but that's it. Knights will be let down hard after he leaves, We will see how the Dragons manage this year.

Rick Stone got them to the top 8 last year. So they have a proven coach.
