ALL today's race meetings in New South Wales have been called off as authorities battle to contain suspected cases of the highly infectious equine influenza (EI).
Several horses stabled at Centennial Park near Randwick Racecourse, where today's major meeting was to be held, have returned positive results to initial tests carried out yesterday.

A five kilometre exclusion zone around the Centennial Park stables includes Randwick Racecourse where around 700 thoroughbreds are housed.

The horses infected are not racehorses.

The first case of equine influenza in Australia was found at Eastern Creek quarantine station on Thursday in a stallion which had come from the northern hemisphere.
