The fact BA keeps missing out on NRL gigs tells you everything. People actually inside the game clearly know far more about his shortcomings as a coach and mentor than any of us — especially the delusional forum diehards still pretending he’s elite.

Yeah I think that’s fairly telling. I didn’t mind BA on the whole but it definitely got stagnant by the end. It’s been fairly surprising he’s not got another gig in the NRL so there’s definitely something in that.

BA had the Perth Gig 95% locked in

So he went to Mal.

The mail i have in regards to Ryles and some decisions he made makes me think both parties must have done similar background checks on the organisation and were shocked at the mess/state the joint was in & run.

He really seems to be an impressive man.

Every time he speaks, he seems calm, confident in control.

Not to say Brad Arthur wasn't
I don't think he was. He was more the angry little merkin vibe, like Bellamy or Stuart. Ryles is a much better public speaker. More like a Robinson or Cleary.

He won half his career NRL games. Better than most coaches, but not up there with the best. Arthur was solid, not elite.

There aren't many NRL gigs to go around. In fact the only ones that have come up were the Titans and Knights, both poisoned chalices. A coach is better off winning games in the UK than fighting for the spoon in Newcastle or the Gold Coast.

Good point.

I didn't want to criticise Arthur unjustly.

But he always did seem a little more "old school".

The fact that Ryles surrounded himself with quality assistants in his team to me shows what a good leader he is.

He did try. He had johns and barrett. Barrett changed our attack after the period where we couldn't score points.

But we still lost games and went back to his old gameplan

Willie Peters is already ahead of him when it comes to next coach in waiting.

I think BA will need to win the superleague comp a few times before an NRL club looks at him..

Ben Gardniner is going to be the coach of Perth after Mal does his 2 year stint.

Willie Peter's will probably Coach Souffs once Benny finishes up.

Think BA would be well regarded and considered for either Manly or Cowboys which on the surface appears to be the 2 most likely jobs to become available during the season. He has some history with Manly, and spent a significant amount of time playing and coaching in Nth QLD.

I think poor Brad is going to be stuck in Leeds for a while.

Gold Coast & Perth already knocked him back.
Brisbane & Newcastle weren't interested.

I doubt he gets the PNG job.

Hopefully the wife does a good yorkshire pudding

Demetriou names been mentioned.

If Tugger's fail then Benji will be arsed. I reckon theyd be perfect for BA

I wasn't keen initially - I was really hoping for Cheika.

But Ryles has proven me wrong.

He is so professional, calm, composed...

A very, very impressive man, and the Eels hierarchy did an excellent job signing this man to coach us.

I hope we can retain him for some time.
Exactly the same with me......and i also hate the dragons with a passion.....so i was pretty upset when we signed him...but my word he has impressed

Ryles has certainly been impressive in the way he has changed the culture of the club and style of play. Early days yet though.
He has brought a positivity and change of culture that we haven't seen since Brian Smith.
That's over 25 years ago.
Clowns like Hagan, Kearney, Stuart and to be honest Arthur just worked for immediate success. They did not build a club for the present, nor the future and long term success.
Ryles appears to be doing that.
Yes, he is only one season in, but I feel he is focusing on what will bring us long term success, not looking for a quick fix.
I like it.
This is what a proper re-build looks like.

And off the field as well...
One of many things Ryles said in his first interview (and has been followed through) he wanted involvement of ex players, and more member functions and the like etc...While some of those member activities are expensive, as a memorable bucket list experience its certainly do-able for a lot of die hard Parra fans

Dunno, I guess the feeling is the Parra eels community feels more united, and heading in a good direction
