Can someone tell me what the fuss is about? I get neat, little else, he's no Alf. And if he's not Alf, a good big man will always beat a good little man.

And we're chasing him as a partner to Townsend, please tell me what I'm missing?

Worth a five year $1.2m a season deal for the Broncos IMO with a two year player option on top.

We must be watching different games.

Has a go but is a deadset rookie. I also don't see what all the fuss is about. May improve if played beside an experienced half for a year or two who he can learn the ropes off but at this stage is a 20 year old kid trying to hold his spot in a team not travelling well.

He’s 20 years old with 20 odd games under his belt playing behind a beaten forward pack with a hooker who lacks creativity, the most limited 5/8 the game has ever seen and a cluster f*ck fullback.

Lets not forget what Cleary was like his first season.

The forward pack really haven’t been badly beaten the past couple of weeks though - he’s been very quiet and has stayed pretty much put on his edge. I’m not sure if this is Walters trying to simplify his role or whether he’s too timid but it won’t work if the rumours are true that they want him to partner Staggs.

His development is screwed at the Broncos atm, if he was secured and there was a handful of decent halves out there he should still be in reserve grade learning his game and running a team.

Dearden had a fantastic 2018 which propelled him in front of Paix and T. Boyd. He was one of the best players in the U/18s competition and was the Man of the Match in the GIO Schoolboy's Cup Grand Final against Patrician Brothers which had Stephen Crichton at fullback.

He drew comparisons to JT because he was a run first type of half who would square the defence up before opening a space up for his edge runner. He formed strong combinations with his edge runners which is something that hasn't happened since Fifita left the club.

He could manage a game, but he left a lot of the last tackle plays to his halves partner. For Tweed Heads and Palm Beach that was Toby Sexton who is playing really well for the Seagulls right now in the QCup. During the Schoolboys tour of the UK that was Jock Madden who is currently playing for Western Suburbs in the NSW Cup.

Those same qualities when he made his debut for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls. He was Man of the Match but Sam Scarlett did the bulk of the organisation and last play kicking while Dearden was able to focus on his own game.

At the Broncos he doesn't have that level of support. His halves partners are too similar to him, his edge backrows leave a lot to be desired and he's just struggling to inject himself in the contest. I think he'll mature into a good half but he just needs to be nurtured. He was done a horrible disservice by Seibs.

According to Chris Garry on Twitter, Dearden has verbally committed to the Cowboys.

I expect the Cowboys will make this official in the coming days.

Interesting signing by the cowboys considering they’ve locked in Townsend who’s a solid game manager and Dearden who's trajectory appears at best to be a game manager due to his physical limitations. Like I said earlier I won’t write him off on the back of 20 odd games but he’s not that player I’d personally team up with Townsend.

As for the Broncos, I’m hoping they were happy to let him go and they’ve got something decent lined up because as of right now Croft is the only half with NRL experience signed for next year .

I don’t live in QLD anymore so I’m not upto date on the talent coming through, is there any decent young halves coming up through the grades?

Not really.

The next cab off the rank is Josh James who is currently injured and is really nothing more than a solid half. He'll most likely end up being a QCup player.

There's Ezra Mam at Souths Logan but he's more of ball-runner and hasn't really kicked on since U/15s.

Surely they’re going after Reynolds or Moses if that’s the case.

Here's hoping we have another half lined up but by the way the retention committee has performed so far I'm not holding my breath. Time to drop Dearden to the ISC and give someone else some NRL experience.
