Canberra Raiders skipper Alan Tongue has joined his team mate Phil Graham in camp at Coffs Harbour with NSW Country, after he was called in as 18th man for the side last night.
Tongue was finally rewarded for his outstanding past 18 months of football, and said even though he may not play, he is still looking forward to what should be a great few days in camp with some great coaches and players.
"Its a pat on the back for me I suppose, after all the hard work you put in at training and away from the paddock I suppose it is a bit of a reward," Tongue said. "At the moment Im 18th man so I probably wont play but saying that its still a fantastic experience which I can learn from and hopefully bring something back to the Raiders."
Tongue said he looked forward to seeing how Phil Graham plays on Thursdsay night and is excited about the confidence the game should give him. Tongue said the difference representative football made to former team mate Adam Mogg last year was amazing, and he hoped to see that in Phil and hopefully some other Raiders later in the year.
"Adam Mogg was the prime example because when he cane back from State of Origin last year he was a different player, and hopefully Phil can learn from this game and bring something back as well," he said. "Its great to see the Raiders players get some recognition and hopefully guys like Neville Costigan can follow this into Origin for Queensland."
Alan Tongue was the Raiders player of the year in 2006, and broke the NRLs all time tackling record for a season, busting through the 1000 mark during the season.
Phil Graham was called into the Country side on Monday afternoon, after the withdrawal of Parramattas Timana Tahu through a hamstring injury
