If the NRL is serious about expanding the league, whether relocating teams or starting new ones, then I think a salary cap exemption for the first few years is vital to attract talent to the club. The increase could be phased out over say three years, which would allow them to establish themselves before they have to compete on the same level as other clubs. When you are trying to create a supporter base in a new area it would be difficult if you had a team of the calibre of say Souths

No I dont think that would be fair at all
A club that has put nothing into developing players would suddenly be able to buy up a whole lot of talent that other clubs have brought through the ranks
They'd be almost like a second Roosters

The only reason the merged clubs eg Illawarra St George or whatever they are, got an increased salary cap is because it wouldnt have looked good for 75 players to be suddenly out of a job in the first year of the unified competition. Plus dead clubs that no longer exist like St George would have been breaking contracts for players still under contract but without a club to play for.

I am quite surprised Central Coast did not get a jersey as well. They seemed to have it all together with Singo's money, a new stadium, good local support and even Mat Orford willing to sign up.

How sure are you it's a done deal ? Indeed, do the Central Coast get a jersey as well ?

As for salary caps, over at the Darkside (AFL), I understand Brisbane got a sweetheart deal to take the Fitzroy club north and now it seems( according to friends in Vic) they've been just about unbeatable because of this unfair advantage to lure players for big $$$. The jury is still out on that for mine.

PS The Gilmore Girls, McLeods Daughters and Charmed suck more than the footy show although Fatty and Gus are still boring, know it all, Shark hating fossils.

I think the team should have the ability to help players with the cost of relocation to the new city in the first year after that all benifits are under the salary cap. It costs money for people to relocate there families from say Sydney or even Brisbane to the Gold Coast or anyother expansion location. I think this would put all teams on a level playing field.
