Any thread with this title cannot exist without one name, albeit a forgotten name.

Ali Lauiti'iti.

Edited, just noticed space monkeys post.

I’d add 2002 Lauiti’iti to that. His offfload stats that year were off the chart, he could do it at will and had the speed and footwork of a centre at near 115kg.

You guys had a few in that team.

Villisanti was certifiably insane.

Guttenbiel wasn't afraid of a hit up.

Francis Meli was outright terrifying at times.

yep. Although I’d put Mal Meninga at the top of the pre-NRL tree.

Another standout on this for me is the Guru. Eric Grothe.

The Warriors player of that era I used to enjoy most was Iafeta Paleaaesina. His runs from a kick off or drop out were absolutely insane.

Hard to argue with Guttenbeil.. wasn’t afraid to tackle either..

Jarryd Hayne and GI on their days has everything; strength, speed, steps and doing long range solo tries on the regular.

Apologies mate, missed him in yours.

No apology needed mate. More meant that indeed I remember him, and remember how much of an absolute weapon he was. Was like watching a man play against kids sometimes. I just couldn’t remember how to correctly spell his surname.

Such a shame for us here that his NRL career was too short.

Absolutely way too short, much like Ewan McGrady. Such a shame there are players who’s level of brilliance & career longevity weren’t matched.

I’m just trying to fathom how anyone can put David Simmons on their list of devastating players...and not have Jarryd Hayne.

That’s just objectively wrong.
