Touch vs Oztag

Myself and a group of friends were looking to playing either Touch or Oztag this year in the Winter season and we're unsure of which to choose.

We're looking for a casual game for the unitiated. Both games seems to have 'casual' games as well as competitive. To be honest we're unfit, unskilled and only 2 of us have ever played any kind of footy before (both of those back in school). We realise we will probably lose every game but we're doing it for a bit of exercise and a bit of fun.

Basically I'm wondering if anyone out there has played both of these games and whether they could help us out by giving us an impression of the differences between the two of them. I have heard from various people which they think is better... but no one can tell me why :)

It's a personal thing. I grew up playing touch & around rep touch players so my preferance lay in that direction. I dont like OzTag but there's nothing wrong with it. Just not my cup of tea.

Find which ever comp fits into everyones schedule the best & then try it. At the very worst it's one season then you can go play the other. If it's all square when you weigh it up, flip a coin...

It really depends how fit you are i reckon

If you're all a bunch of sloths you'll get hammered in any decent touch comp. Touch is a bloody fast game, especially if you're playing against decent opposition

Oz tag is a bit more like rugby league. It's not as "precise" as touch, and there is a bit more room for error. There's no scooping, so it's a bit kinder on the heart if you're not too fit.

I personally think touch is the better game .....Oztag's a bit slower and technical(still a fast game though). You can kick in oztag, but meh. You can't dump and scoop in Tag though, and IMO thats why i prefer touch.

If you're an old leaguie who wants to throw the ball around and kick a bit you will probably prefer tag. But if you're young, elusive, and quick, you might prefer touch.

Vote 1 touch

I think you should play touch.
I play Oztag and sometimes defence gets you really working, it's like tackling as in just because you get to the person it dosent mean you've stopped them, you need to actually take off the tag which is alot harder in practice than theory, especially when you are able to spin etc.

All up I'd say Oztag is funner though, there's alot more action than touch, but I think you'd be suited to touch better as it probably takes a bit less effort.

Anyway both are fun.. lol.

We've got the frames of footy players... but sadly it isn't muscle. It's soft maleable flesh.

Touch is quite possibly one of the fastest sports in the world, so it is unadvisable if you are unfit, you will get slaughtered. Oztag is a bit slower. Regardless of this though, I'd base my decision on the rule differences. Tags annoy me, so I prefer touch. But Oztag is closer to League, allows kicking, so a lot of people prefer it.

Oztag is definately more frustrating when your reaching for those farkin tags :fist:

however you have to be fairly fit for both but so much fitter for Touch. Going on that basis your better off playing Tag.

Me = 0 tries in whole Oztag season

Oztag < Touch

I'd agree with OzTag. You need to be fitter, work harder, and be more organised in Touch (obviously mitigated by the standard of the comp).

Whilst any bozo can run through a tag - although in my playing days, I found scoring equally easy in both :p

I think that pretty much sums it up.

I enjoy both but personally I found touch to be more an exercise in running back and forwards. And because we weren't terribly fit it was a bit difficult to get used to it, but come the end of the season we weren't too bad. In attack you've got to be very sharp and precise if you want to break the line, a lot of it comes down to quick play the balls and capitalising on slack defense. Very intense and great fun.

I tend to prefer OzTag a little more though, because you're allowed a bit of razzle dazzle. Sometimes it means you can get people running one out and taking the line on individually, and sometimes getting through, so the scoreboard doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the team as touch does. Defense is a bugger too at first, but it feels a lot better when you start making tags somewhat consistently.

They're both huge fun, and require a bit of commitment to settle in, but I'd vote for OzTag just from personal preference. Plus it's probably a little better for just having a laugh during and after the match. It's always great to reminisce about a spectacular tag
