Young Broncos Do It Again

THE WOW Brisbane Broncos under 20s have shown patience and persistence pays off to come from behind to defeat the South Sydney Rabbitohs 26-20 at Suncorp Stadium this evening.

An enthusiastic Broncos team came out firing in the second half as halfback Ben Hunt put a clever kick in out wide for winger Jharal Yow Yeh to score.

Hunt converted as the Broncos trailed 20-16 in the 53rd minute.

Both teams looked dangerous with ball in hand but handling errors were proving costly.

Broncos centre Dale Copley was elusive out wide and big prop David Hala was leading the way up front as points seemed imminent.

The Broncos hard work was finally rewarded as Yow Yeh made a break down the side line handing off for interchange player Rhys Matsen whose quick hands allowed for Hunt to score under the posts.

Hunt converted putting the Broncos in front for the first time in the match 22-20, with 12 minutes of play remaining.

The Broncos kept the pressure mounting receiving penalties and forcing goal line drop outs but the Rabbitohs continued to fight back.

Props Hala and Mitchell Dodds were exceptional in defence as the Rabbitohs were desperate to mount a comeback.

The Broncos threw the ball around with no direction until hooker Kurt Baptiste took control placing a perfectly timed kick for winger Dane Gagai to score the match winner in the corner.

Hunt failed to add the extras as they maintained a narrow lead 26-20, in the 79th minute.

Earlier the Rabbitohs caught the Broncos off guard with some quick hands and a clever grubber allowing for winger Josh Mansour to cross in the corner.

Vaivai failed to convert leaving the score at 4-0, six minutes in.

Gagai was unlucky as he left the field of play attempting to keep the ball alive but was deemed to have stepped on the sideline.

The Rabbitohs took full advantage this time using the bomb for Mansour to go over in the corner.

Vaivai converted giving his side a healthy 10-0 lead, in the 12th minute.

The Broncos hit back through some quick thinking and excellent ball handling by Yow Yeh scoring out wide.

Hunt failed to convert as the score remained 10-4, 18 minutes in.

The Broncos were under all sorts of pressure from a dynamic Rabbitohs backline but recovered well with lock Guy Ford leading the way up front.

The Rabbitohs backline proved too good again as flying winger Kane Morgan put in a perfectly timed grubber for fullback Luke Capewell to pounce on.

Vaivai converted extending the Rabbitohs lead to 16-4, in the 30th minute.

The Rabbitohs were on fire as Morgan made another break down the side line this time regathering his own kick and going in right next to the posts.

VaiVai failed to convert as his team took a commanding 20-4 lead, 34 minutes in.

The Broncos dug deep and capitalised off a Rabbitohs mistake as five eighth Corey Norman made a determined run from the scrum base putting fullback Todd Murphy through a hole as he slammed the ball down over the try line.

Hunt converted narrowing the gap to 20-10 right on the stroke of half-time.
