Obviously there are exceptions. Peterson is one.
But my point was it was reasonable to assume that Richardson was being held back by his situation in Cleveland. Obviously we are now seeing that there is more to it than that, but to say it's not a surprise he is failing at the colts is a bit rich (wordplay intended).
He only ran for over 100 yards 3 times and never for over 125 yards in his rookie season and went even worse this season at Cleveland, any scrub HB who starts a couple of games eventually has a breakout game, only takes one long gainer, he didn't do that once in 20 games before being traded. Why would we expect him to do it for another team, surely 20 trash games in a row is enough to show his worth, shouldn't matter what team you're on, if you're good enough you'll eventually find a way.
32 and 26 were his longest carries last season, longest carry this season is 16.............Any HB in the NFL should be able to pull of some longer fluke carries than that.
