Training report

Went down to the Old Saleyards to watch the boys first training session since the week break for the bye.

Taka (hammy) and Gordon (shoulder) limited to bike work on the sideline.

Cornish still in a brace, Kelly walking freely. Neither trained at all.

Couple of conspicuous absentees - Semi was nowhere to be seen, Mannah also not there. Foz also not present but guess that's expected now he's gone for the year.

Schulte was training on the wing outside Gutho for a while, then Vai switched into that position.

Edwards was playing first receiver & distributor for the majority of the session with Norman playing 2nd receiver. Edwards was doing quite a lot of short-play kicking.

Corey really is a dominant voice at training, the guy is a real leader and switches between being the protagonist joker and organiser between sets. I can't see this guy not being part of our long term plans, court case withstanding.

Inside balls and forwards running into gaps seemed to be the order of the day.

Was impressed with the intensity and talk, especially in the first session in a week.

French had a roving role, making me think he will be FB if Gordon isn't sweet.

There is a chance Semi and Mannah have already headed up to the NT to commence school visits or other community related activities. Normally the team heads up Tuesday and does lots of school visits, etc. before training gets serious later in the week.

Thanks mate. It's great to see that somebody is actually talking about football for a (very refreshing) change. Very informative, well done!

Thanks mate. I thought Schulte did not look too bad for Wenty on the weekend, not sure how he'd go at NRL level though. Edwards at halfback?

Cheers for the info, exciting to see of Bevo get a chance at the back sooner rather then later.

Was bummed my week in Sydney on holidays from the GC fell on bye week, so hitting training was my only chance to get a glimpse at the team.

Forgot to mention BA and de Gois were last to the field, and spent quite a while chatting on the sideline before Isaac joined training. May be nothing, could have been regarding the recent rumours of him moving on. For what it's worth he trained hard and led the line in most of the fitness drills

No. But at least it is good to know he has been practising.

I don't get this...

In my mind EVERY player should be practising their kicking. Even if they never kick during the course of their career. The way the game is played these days, the importance of possession has never been more valuable and completion rates are an important gauge of overall performance in a game. The higher you complete your sets, the more chance of winning.

It is not an uncommon occurrence for a non-kicker to get stuck with the ball inside the opposition 20 on the 5th - if they can put boot to ball in some controlled manner then the chances of a more positive outcome than simply taking the tackle or throwing a 'hail mary' improve.

Agreed, it also never hurts for any player to have a "chip and chase" style kick. It can really surprise the defense. Also a grubber kick as well.

Agreed. When I played I lost track of the number of times I was told I wasn't allowed to kick. Or pass.

Put those together with your inability to tackle and I guess your mum must have been a whiz at washing the teams jerseys... and I bet you followed the coaches instruction to the letter too.

That's not all she was a whiz at.
