Transfer fees and french union - should we use this more?

since french RU clubs are so desperate for talent, especially NRL players, should we use this more to our advantage.

with luke rooney on the equivalent of 600,000 when few nrl clubs were interested, should this be an area we should look at.

rather than shopping unwanted players around to other NRL clubs hoping to take over the contracts, why not try and make a couple of hundred thousand by offloading them to union in france?

not every player a club wants to offload would be suited in union eg ben ross, but it could be a good way to raise money from players we want to get rid of.

Why would French Rugby clubs want to pay a transfer fee when they know the NRL club wants to offload that particular player??? They're not stupid.

they paid 600,00 for luke rooney they are that stupid.

and the nrl club doesnt announce hes a dud they are looking to cut.

its like when youve got a dud 2nd hand car you want to sell.

if these guys are desperate for our players, let make some dollars off it

Firstly, Luke Rooney was off contract so different circumstances.

Secondly, the club may not announce it, but every time a player is unwanted by a club the media seem to know about it surprisingly. So it's not going to be that easy to keep secret. A dud used car isn't going to be shopped around my managers to everybody interested... and certainly isn't going to make newspaper headlines.

There should be something written into all contracts now in terms of transfer fees. If only to set up an official avenue for dealing with these things in future. If we'd had a transfer system in place prior to this, Toulon may well have approached the Bulldogs with an offer first. That would have brought everything out in the open and things would have unfolded very differently

You need a governing body to recognise that though, not simply the NRL... and even then French Rugby are a different code so it wouldn't be recognised by them.

its something we should look at.

obviously i dont want to see the good players going but if we can get them taking the lesser players and getting some money out of it, why not.

i mean they are interested in vagana as well.

the french recognize elite talent when they see it.

even a 33 yr old NRL player with zero pro union experience is considered worthy

Doesn't matter whether they recognise it or not! If a system was in place, and French Clubs or whoever (ESL anyone?) knew they could trade with the NRL under those circumstances, surely they'd explore the new avenue that is suddenly exposed to them?

If a transfer system was in place, the first people to work it would be the player managers - the ACCREDITED ones.

The twig artist that owns Toloun didn't know the Bulldogs existed until recently - I wonder then how he heard of SBW?

They would also target more players under contract... and the managers would be pushing for this. Inglis is off contract end of next year, but put a transfer clause in each contract and he could go today. Perhaps it solves problems like Sonny Bill and gives clubs more money, but we would be losing more players because of it.

Transfer monies are a good idea, they use it in England but it was scrapped decades ago in Australia.

Maybe we need to go back to the future!!!!

I think by accepting that, we will just be a feeder comp for Europe. The game needs to have a good look at itself, and put in measures to increase the pie. ESL and NRL need to also plow some cash into the International game, to help grow it, and provide more competition at the higher levels.

A transfer fee system would be good. It may work between NRL clubs, perhaps even RL clubs, but I can't see it happening accross codes. Who is going to police it?

The RLIF needs to start governing the game.

The RFL and the NRL need to work together to assist the game in this troubled time for SH rugby league.

It could work between the NRL and ESL but that is all.

However, all it will do is force more players out of the game here because of financial incentives for the clubs. Fui Fui has an offer from the ESL, Parramatta aren't keen to release him, but if they get thrown 150k they might. That's not a good thing.

The RLIF is a part time board isn't it? And mainly made up of those in the ARL anyway. They don't have anything close to the control that FIFA would have, for example

its going to happen anyway until we raise the money in the nrl.

instead of putting our heads in the sand, we need to get involved in it.

if we offer them our dud / average players and fill up their teams with those, theyll target the stars less.

plus we make money from it.

players like nigel vangana now, or other players nearing retirement are what im thinking of.

rather than leaving it for them to target players, lets offer them some and see if they take them

The french rugby clubs are not f**king idiots, you are not going to get hundreds of thousands of dolllars for brett firman or steel retchless for f**ks sake.

Jesus dally, you think that union clubs would just accept any old piece of sh*t player that nrl clubs no longer want ?

Also what is to stop ingliss or any other player retiring from league and signing with a union club without having to pay the transfer fee ?
