The Tri-Nations tournament is set to return a profit of more than $1 million, despite Britain's failure to make the final. Three of the four matches played so far attracted sell-out crowds and more than 20,000 tickets were pre-sold for the final.

Great news. Hopefully a proportion of that will go to international development, and not just a small token effort.

Whilst it was never really under any fear of making a loss (only the Telegraph claimed it would), $1 million is a pretty significant profit for the tournament, especially after last years tournament was to clear $750,000, though that might of been after the RLWC debt payoff.

Hope this story is definately true, any profit almost guarentees the tournament goes ahead in 06.

Yakstorm, I was under the impression the 2004 tournament made £750,000 profit, not dollars....

I'll wait for Dean Ritchie (Tele, Sydney) to put that up in a headline like he did with his "Tri-Nations to lose 1 million dollars" one a few weeks ago.

But I won't hold my breath...

I should have also dine the conversion the other way...

Last year's 750K pound profit would have been roughly equal to AU$1.8 or 1.9 million.

Dean Ritchie covering International rugby league is a disgrace. Why can't they use Mascord for more than just the Sunday paper?

I suspect Mascord has to earn his stripes at the Tele first to get the gig. Ritchie has no doubt looked forward to the paid holiday for some time.

Mascord is, however, in the UK so it beats me why he hasn't been given the guernsey unless it is the above.

Last years profit was definately 750,000 pounds. Ritchie is a disgrace, everything he writes has a negative spin on it.

Mascord is only contracted to the Sunday Tele. They are seperate papers. I believe he starts with the Daily Tele in February. I expect he is only contracted to the Sunday Tele for the Tri Nations.

The thing is though, this is the 2nd year certain people in our Game will have moaned and whinged about the International Game, but will have gone home with a fat Cheque in their pocket because of it.

It's simple. International Rugby League equals Money to be made. International League taken seriously and promoted and supported can make LOTS of Money.

Keep supporting the Game everbody at this Level. I hope the ARL see what Money and prestige there is to be made if they take the International Game seriously. Hopefully a Kiwi Win in the final and Sonny Bill and Benji amongst others back next year should see a good start with a huge Crowd for the Anzac Test next year (when and wherever it is played).
