Troy!

Ok, the fact that I'm a history buff is going to play a huge part in this, but I have just come back from watching 'Troy' and believe that it is a lock for film of the year. Absolutely unbelievable!

I won't say too much on it as I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but for those who have I would be interested to know what each person thought was the best part in the film (assuming you liked any part of it that is). For me, the Hector vs Achillies was mesmirizing. There wasn't a sound in the cinema throughout this scene.

Brad Pitt and Eric Bana worked wonders together on film. I thought this was a great feature film and I'm predicting big things for it in the box office and critics reviews.

El Coconuto's verdict: A

Disclaimer: If you're not really into history, maybe this movie isn't for you then...? But hey, there's still plenty of sub-romantic plots going throughout the whole movie for those who love the mushy stuff (hell, the whole movie is over a love affair  )

Your thought's on the movie people's?

I'm a history buff too, but I've been massively uninspired by the previews. I guess I'll just have to wait and see...

Why do movies I want to see only come out when I literally have the next month budgeted out to the last cent

The storyline is very sketchy, even to those who have read Homer's account of the epic. The main problem that I think people who haven't read about Troy will have is deciding who to cheer for? You want to love Brad Pitt for his arrogance, and yet you want to love Eric Bana for his genuine love for his town and his adversaries. Ironically, the side you want to cheer for are the side who started the war (or at least this was the case with me). Need we mention that Eric Bana get's our vote of support purely on being Australian

There are a couple of minor blemishes on the storyline but in general the director has done a good job of orchestrating things. I read one review which criticised the film for not involving the God's more in the flick. Whilst even I know they played a huge part in the film, it is more 'realistic' when we don't see them.

The only major technicality problem I had with the film is that they made it look as though the war was fought over a month or two when it really went for nine years. But that would be a long and boring movie if they did it from start to finish now wouldn't it!?

And don't forget, the underlying story of Troy is all about love. Don't judge it as a war story as such. I mean hey, it's based on Greek Mythology anyways.

I am definitely going to see this one, not taking the missus cause she is dumb as astump and would ask too many questions thorughout...she can see a Sandra Bullock or Julia Roberts flick instead...

Did Classical studies in school and remember the story somewhat, am keen to see how it is portrayed on screen..

Also Brad Pitt is dreamy!

I saw it last night. I thought it was ok. It was a fairly long movie though and considering I was already tired made me lose interest a bit. But overall, pretty good!

The reviews I've read have suggested it falls a bit flat but I'll be going to see it anyway. Hey El Coconuto does it have the Achilles' heel myth in it? I'm guessing not because it seems to me they want to play up the 'realism' of it but I'd like to see it in there.

It does, although there are a few technical things in there that aren't brought up that would make the story a lot easier to understand. For starters, they don't touch on why Achillies heel was his only weakness nor do they touch on the God's who favoured the Greeks over the Trojans.

The story definately does not match the account that Homer gave at all. It has been severely chopped and churned to make a better movie. Only two of the deaths of lead characters in the movie, are similar to how Homer describes them. The rest I'm going to assume the director changed to make the flick feel more personal. I suppose you can do that because it's only a myth but even still there were countless times when I sat there saying to myself 'hold up, that's not how it happens'.

I rate the movie predominantly on it's graphical achievements and I must give the director credit for turning a mediocre movie (yes there have been previous cinematic attempts to film this mythology) into a good film with a great cast.

Still, the historical incorrectness of the film is hard to bypass. Those who read and studied it, will see exactly what I mean by that. As more people start to see it, I'll discuss what problems I found, but I still don't want to spoil it for people yet. :p

I saw it yesterday. i really enjoyed it. I thought the performaces by Brad Pitt, Eric Bana & Sean Bean were fantastic, the directing was great, the script was pretty good.

HOWEVER Orlando Bloom was complete and utter rubbish, as was whoever played Helen. Just awful!

Having said that, they didn't manage to ruin the movie so it must've been pretty damn good i guess.

Cool Battle Scenes. Shame They Tried to stuff in about 600 years of greek Social and cultural evolution into it. But, much like every other historical epic interpreted by Hollywood (mel Gibson is doing Boudecia, the British Chieftaness that took on Rome. Wondering how he is going to blame the English for it...), you come for the Violence, stay for the Special Effects. A few of the plot twists irked me.

going to tamworths "regent cinema complex" on a tuesday is great value, at only $7 a head for everyone for every screening the whole day..
the only bad thing about that cinema is we cant use tokens that you get from coke and other brands like that, for those big chain cinemas.
i am going to see this movie!

El Coco, I loved the movie too, but having read Homer, it was like going to passions of the christ and having Judas as the hero

They did say the 'story' was 'inspired' by Homer and it is Hollywood !!

That is my only fault with the movie, and I beleive that Eric Banner and Brad Pitt will win awards for their performances.
