British backpackers expose Tuffey in sex tape scandal

New Zealand pace bowler Daryl Tuffey was filmed having sex by two British backpackers, according to a New Zealand newspaper.
Tuffey appeared before the New Zealand Cricket disciplinary board yesterday charged with bringing the game into disrepute. The board is revealing few details about the misconduct charge, but the Christchurch newspaper The Press today reports the hearing related to a videotape filmed by two British 19-year-old men, which shows Tuffey having consensual sex with a woman.
The Press reported the tape was made at a Christchurch flat in November, but it became an issue only after the woman's new boyfriend heard of the tape's existence through other sources.
Police said yesterday they had no involvement in the case and were not investigating.
The British men were in New Zealand for four months but left the country two weeks ago. They played cricket for the second-grade Riccarton side.
A friend of the men, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the pair were "immature boys" who had made several sex videos during their four-month stay in New Zealand.
Tuffey met the men in November while he was training at the New Zealand Cricket Academy at Lincoln and socialised with the pair when he was in Christchurch, the source said.
The two backpackers took the tape to pubs around Christchurch, boasting of their efforts and showing it on the screen of their video recorder.
The head of the misconduct inquiry, Hugh Rennie, QC, said he had received submissions from New Zealand Cricket and Tuffey over the matter. He indicated the inquiry would be complete in about two weeks.
