Twilight Shield Cricket

In one of the biggest changes this season, eight Shield matches will become twilight fixtures, with the new timeslot to be trialled in games at the MCG, Bellerive Oval, the SCG and Adelaide Oval.

The twilight games, to be played in states with daylight saving, could finish as late as 8pm, but the start and finish times are yet to be confirmed

The International Cricket Council are desperate to rejuvenate Test cricket by staging it at night and have requested first-class competitions around the world to stage trials under lights.
The biggest stumbling block so far has been in finding a ball that is not only suitable for the unique conditions that day-night cricket throws up, but will also hold up for the extended time needed in four or five-day games.

I remember when they had Day/Night Shield games in 97/98 I think it was.

Well they didn't have the pink ball back then either.
If I remember correctly they used either yellow or orange balls when they first tried it. They've also played the last 2 MCC v County Champions match in Abu Dhabi as day/night matches with a pink ball.

I like the idea or any idea that will get more people to the games

So much loss of play irks me, so I like the idea of exploring options to restrict loss of play. It also allows more people to go out and watch the games, which is a good thing.

I was explaining the idea of trialling this to my dad a couple of weeks ago and the whole pink ball thing, and he thinks it would make more sense to use purple balls because "the colour is sharper"

taking two games to Manuka and Bankstown is a good start - then they f**k it up by playing 7 of the 8 days Mon-Fri :crazy::crazy:

Glad this isn't being trialled in Brisbane. Of the usual 50 or so in the crowd, most are retired/elderly. So putting in the Twilight period basically rules them out from attending. I can't see any younger people attending either. It's rare to see more than about ten people turning up after work for any Shield game.

I saw those Shield fixtures you posted and had a look at the WA fixtures (I still go for NSW but am a member of the WACA)

4 out of 25 playings days on weekends - none of them are until February either. The rest are all weekdays, yet Cricket Australia wants to dribble about trying to attract more people through the gate
