Good point. On Ramsey's last game, played like he wanted that fb position. Apparently Sloane hasn't shown much in Reserves. Only young,so has plenty of time to mature.
What I am afraid of , yes Ramsey played well and I hope he continues to get better , but , yep but what will Captain Hook do if Ramsey has a couple of bad games , will he punt him and go with Mybe at fullback ....... We will have to wait and see .......

Sloan has been rocks or diamonds in reserves. Either complete domination or a shocker (relative to what we would expect for our future FB). As far as overall performance at this stage, he is a bit like Dufty in that regard.

Now your thinking like me , Sully may be the missing link in all of this ....... And there is talk about a swap with the dogs if true , we haven't played him in his right position yet ......
Correct, I've been saying this all along, Sullivan is the key, no doubt about it, both to Amone and Sloan, but I will also concede that there is a huge difference between defense at JF level compared to the NRL. So whilst attack would be brilliant their defense has certainly needed work, having bugger all KOE cup for the last 2 years hasnt helped either.

The biggest issue is that Sloan will ask for a release to go to The Dolphins.

Hook’s management of him hasn’t been great.

I’d rather lose every game with a Sloan, Bud, Amone, Hunt (hooker) spine than continue to play journey man wasteoids that block junior development.
Exactly this , rather play them have said this in other posts ...... Hook isn't winning anything this year or next will be lucky if they make the 8 play the young guys let them gel ..... Hook is very big on Defense (and how's that going?) same as I have been calling for ..... Hook is a Dinosaur .....

Brad, I think the biggest issue with Tyrell is he needs to overcome his weaknesses. I have watched him live 3 times in the NSW as well as his NRL appearances, a couple live but most on TV. It seems to me he has 3 main issues to address:
1. (Taking Hook's comments here) Helping organise the defensive line from the back. Hopefully he will work hard together with guidance from the coaching staff on this in NSW Cup but could well take time.
2. Defusing bombs. Surely Jason Nightingale could do some specialist work with him on this. I contend this is an area where he should improve quickly because it's not that hard if you have ball skills as he certainly does. It's just a matter of technique, ticker and confidence. Learning to attack the ball rather than hesitating wondering if you can get under it. But it's true that in NSW Cup the bombs are nowhere near as testing.
3. I have seen Tyrell make some fantastic breaks in NSW Cup but he lacks patience - it's like he thinks a break is only worth it if it leads directly to a try. But in fact the attempted miracle ball usually leads to a loss of possession and thus undoes the good work. I can recall both Barrett and Mundine committing the same sorts of errors.

These days rugby league at the NRL level is a cut-throat business. Rival clubs will pounce on young talent we have spent years developing with open cheque books that defy their salary cap limits.

We need to recognize this and find ways to keep our best young talent. I would like to see Sloan given the opportunity to play in the five-eight position alongside Sullivan. I think this combination in the halves would be dynamite. By moving Hunt to hooker to accommodate this move, we would also address the main problem our forwards are facing each week; quality ball from the dummy-half and good ruck management.

Valid points but, Hook isn't

moving Hunt to dummyhalf.
SECONDLY Sloan is having problems handing the position he knows, in Reserves. Without moving him closer to the action. In 1st grade.
Think he needs time to mature, grow and gain some confidence.
Just don't think Sloane is anywhere near ready, changing our spine to accommodate 3 rookies is a
receipt for complete disaster.

Agree with you , but its already a disaster , it has been for 6 or more years now , so I would be doing the change of Hunt to 9 Sully , Amone ,7, 6 no more Mybe to 1 let Ramsey and Sloan work that one out ...... I cant see any light at the end of the tunnel and its been a long tunnel ..... Its not going to make any difference to the team winning as they struggle to do that now , so lets play and develop the young blokes not shaft them with guys that are ready to retire ..... Titians had an 18 year old playing in the forwards last night and if I'm right they have stuck with him ..... My concern is not the young brigade its the old blokes blocking the young guys ..... Keep hearing we have to be patient with the team the players the Coach , Nah been doing that for 7 years and changes need to happen now ......

Can't agree,
Maybe I'm old school but I believe in the rookies learning their skills in Reserve grade. Then being introduced slow and steady,
on the wing to get the feel of first grade. After all this method worked well for players like Gaznier, Cooper & Creigh.
Just to mention a few of the more recent players.
You do a lot of damage to young players if introduced
to early. Particularly without
playing & learning skills in 2nds.Some of these guys haven't even played against
"men" before . Sloan looks very apprehensive under the bomb and very hesitant in defence.

I’ve had a rethink.
I think we should tell Hunt he’s 9 and let the 4 kids fight out the three remaining spine positions.

Don’t play rookies in the spine I hear you say?

You’re probably right. After all, look at all the success we’ve had playing Hunt, Norman, Bird , Mbye, McCullough.

The biggest disasters this club has made in recent times were keeping the peanut well past his use by date, letting Widdop go and replacing him with Norman. If we had a big picture long term plan like Penrith the younger players would be mentored by the likes of Hunt and Widdop if he had stayed and gradually bought into first grade as Penrith have done so well. I’m struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel been anything but a train at the moment
