UAE Rugby League Comp under threat

Here we go again all.

The RU authorities in the UAE are not happy with their league counterparts.

Although some words about co operation the fact remains that RL is not official recognised.

I understand RL has a similar issue in South Africa and also Morocco.

Is it time that RL considers changing its name to avoid this crap. Even the touch guys have to fall under the RU banner for no other reason that they are tossing a rugby ball around.

The names have been changed to RLCommission, removing all reference to the UAE. www.twitter.com/rlcommission

I posted on another forum, it's time for us to start shortening the sport's name (Rugby League Football) to League Football rather than Rugby League. Avoid all references to rugby, that way there's nothing RU can do to hurt us, we'll avoid being misrepresented and there will be no confusion with foreign governments. The sport is already known as just 'league' or 'football' in Australia and NZ anyway so it isn't really a big jump.

Rlif need to get rugby league and touch rugby registered there ASAP to stop this farce. The bid for the rlwc is the ideal'platform to get the use govt to officially recognise these two variants of rugby.

Surely the rlif should have done this official ground work by now?

On the name of the game, I agree time to cut all links to rugby uioin, we have left them well behind in our evolution. League football might be the answer? Then each country just puts its name in front ie

Australian league football
British league football
UAE league football
Etc

The RLEF were trying to get membership of Sports Accord which would give them protection, I don't know if this is still happening or why it hasn't happened yet.

It's pretty sad when you look at the list and see that the likes of dragon boat racing, miniature golf and ultimate frisbee have accreditation and RL doesn't. Right now we're down with the likes of international bodyboarding, elephant polo and competitive tent pegging. f**king embarrassing how undeveloped and neglected RL has been for so many years.

SportsAccord is the answer, not changing the name of the sport. "League football" doesn't work in other languages, and why should we give in to this sort of behaviour from rugby union?

I agree. Had it been a different name from the beginning, I believe it would have been beneficial in many places. But I think changing it now would be very difficult and almost like a sign of retreat, which I don't like.

It's not about 'giving in', it's about doing the sensible thing. We can either persist with a name that causes us all kinds of problems, or change it to something that, while generic, would allow us to move forward without obstruction. Being proactive and doing something to prevent RU attacking our game would upset them a hell of a lot more than us trying to put up some kind of noble fight but ultimately doing nothing and playing right into their hands, which is what has been happening for about 80 years.

How about we call it Fieldball in developing countries. As in the game born in HuddersFIELD and played on a field.Soccer does the same thing.Football in countries where it's popular Soccer where its not.Rugby League can be the proper name and Fieldball the aka.

I don't know if you're joking or not but giving the sport a f**king stupid name like 'fieldball' or 'tackleball' would be one of the worst possible things to do. We don't need to rename anything, just start using the final two words of 'Rugby League Football' rather than the first two.
