http://www.theherald.com.au/story/3877400/no-semi-now-fiji-likely-to-lose-aku/?cs=306FIRST Semi Radradra, now Akuila Uate.
Fiji appear set to lose another attacking weapon for Saturday weeks Test match against Papua New Guinea at Pirtek Stadium, with Knights winger Uate expected to declare himself unavailable for selection.
Uate is understood to be leaning towards resting and recovering during the Knights bye week, rather than representing his home land.
The 28-year-old, who has scored 13 tries for Fiji in 11 Tests, had knee surgery in the pre-season and suffered a painful chest-joint injury against South Sydney in round two that sidelined him for two games.
His likely absence, combined with Radradras decision to switch allegiance to Australia and an ankle injury that has ruled out Melbournes Marika Koroibete, has significantly depleted the firepower available to Fiji coach Michael Potter.
Uate, who played five Tests for Australia in 2011 and 2012, last represented Fiji during the 2013 World Cup. He opted to play for NSW Country during the representative round last season.
Even without Uate, the Knights could still provide Fiji with three players in twins Daniel and Jacob Saifiti and Queensland Origin contender Korbin Sims.
Knights coach Nathan Brown he had no qualms about releasing players for international duty if they were fit.
It will probably be determined by, one, the boys desire to play, Brown said.
Thats obviously got to play a part, and, two, where there bodies are at if their bodies are in good shape, I think international football is a really, really good experience for them, Its a different one. They get to play with other players from other clubs, and thats a benefit as well.
Daniel Saifiti said he was eager to represent the Bati, for whom he debuted last year as an 18-year-old.
If our coaches want me to rest, Ill rest, he said. But if they allow me to play, Im 100 per cent keen to put my hand up. Last year was the best camp Ive ever been in, footy wise. To represent Fiji again would be a massive honour.
This year more than ever, the input of coaches and "player welfare" is causing a distraction from what should be one of the more exciting periods on the international calendar.
