how do they work out international union eligibility. a few of the fijian boys are from australia and play in france. i thought the union international eligibilty rules where meant to be a lot stricter

They are. Where ever you play first, you stay there.

So the normal residency/parents rules apply. But you cannot chop & change like you can in league. In rugby union players have to make their choice and stick with it.

To the OP, they are stricter. Isa Nacewa was someone who paid the price for playing a couple of minutes for Fiji in the 2003 world cup which denied him a chance at having a shot with the All Blacks.
