Updates on Marsh & Lyon - SMH

Meanwhile, the Warriors yesterday released former Queensland Origin hooker PJ Marsh, who has not played since having fusion surgery on his neck more than 12 months ago.

Marsh, whose wife, Kelly, is due to give birth to their first child later this month, hopes to play again and has been linked with a return to Parramatta.

However, South Sydney have also expressed an interest in signing the 24-year-old utility, pending a medical clearance when he visits a specialist in October.

Former Test centre Jamie Lyon is expected to announce a decision on his playing future today, with Wests Tigers keen to entice him back to the NRL next season if he gains a release from the Eels.

Cronulla halfback Jason Kent and winger Matthew Rieck are also on the market after Sharks general manager Steve Rogers confirmed last night the pair had not been offered new contracts.

Tomorrow night, Kent will again deputise for injured captain Brett Kimmorley, who withdrew from the clash with Parramatta after scans showed the hamstring tear he sustained ahead of Origin II on June 16 still had not fully mended.

Some people mentioned that they wouldn't mind seeing Parra chase Kent looks like the SHarks won't be putting up a fight for him.

Medical Clearence and Souths only hurdles in the Eels bringing PJ home.

and very interesting that Lyon's announcement would come so soon.

SMH also reports that McKinnon is in doubt but there was no word on a possible replacement.

So, that may well strengthen the claim that Joel Reddy would come in, cause if it was to be as simple as Ash to fullback and Ben Smith or Luke O'Dwyer into the side then I'm thinking that it would have been told to the press that O'Dwyer or Smith would be coming into the side.

I wish it was Sullivan instead of Kent. I actually think that Rieck could be a handy addition in the 3/4's. He would rate in the top 3 for speed, which is something we could use and has plenty of experience. I would be very surprised if PJ went to Souths, he has only been involved in succeeful sides whilst playing and the bunnies still have a lot of ground to cover. If he just wanted to go through the motions, I doubt he would be willing to risk another serious injury after this ordeal.

Rieck had trouble breaking into the Panthers first grade side in 2001 when we 'won' the wooden spoon, its good for him he left at the end of 2001 as he wouldn't of had a hope in hell of getting in front of Lewis and Rooney in 2002 and after.

Forget about MARSH to much risk. Sign young KENT. The bloke can play and he would go great guns at Parra. MUCH better then what we have.

Lyon should make a decision. Parramatta and Wee Waa. No other choices.

Hopefully PJ can get back to full fitness, he's a talented player and is great for the game.

He's played a handful of games at halfback and was better known as a centre and fullback before he asked to have a crack. Bigger gamble than Marsh IMO as he has never had to really guide a team - Hilder, Sullivan, Peachey and Gallen were doing the majority of the organising. He would be a good player to have though just not as first choice.

Maybe it's as simple as Brett Anderson to fullback. He' s played there in Reggies and carved up, I believe.

So, despite Iafeta desperately trying to convince us the Warriors would not release Marsh (sucked in!), he was release on Wednesday, and I only heard about it on the Footy Show yesterday.

Kent and possibly even Rieck would be handy for depth, but we have O'Dwyer, who can cover centre, 5/8, lock and even hooker I believe.

On Lyon, I would be severely pissed off if Parra released him to go anywhere. Especially bloody Wests.

On second thoughts, maybe it's merger by stealth. I mean, Balmain rejected a merger with Parra that would leave Fitzy as CEO and Smith as coach. So they merged with Wests (which included former Eel territory anyway), bought our players, and started winning! Maybe they are really Parramatta and our mob as just a aimless mob wandering around in the ether.

Think of the backline...

Hodgeson
Richards
Lyon
Halatau
Moodie

DElete kiwi Halatau and insert kiwi Vaealiki and you have a backline that is awfully similar to the one that played in blue and gold in the 2001 GF.

Shit, The Tigers are more Parramatta than Parra are!

I would be severly pissed off to if he went to Wests.

We have now become the new Newtown. But instead of being a feeder to Cronulla, we are a feeder to Wests, Dogs, Rorters and Canberra. #-o

Hopefully, Lyon sees the potential in our signings for next year and decides to play our last 3 matches in a late bid to make the TRI-NATION team..

I mean, the papers were talking abt TONGA. LYON, would piss all over him.

Cannings should also get into Lyon's ear...

And how would this look. Fitzy releases Lyon to Wests. Lyon, who only left because of Smith, signs. Then, in the off season, we remove Smith.

I reckon that's EXACTLY how it will pan out!

I reckon if Fitzgerald was planning on doing something about the coaching he wouldn't be releasing Lyon before then

sh*t, The Tigers are more Parramatta than Parra are!

or you could replace Halatau with current injured centre and ex-Eel John Wilson, add current 5/8 and centre Michael Buettner and current lock cum 5/8th Ben Galea and you have half a team made up of ex-Eels. Its quite absurd. I gotta tell you though, i wouldn't really swap many of our current guys for many of this group...

i would rather Lyon did not play unless it was for us or no team at all.....but if he goes to wests its better then him going to the dogs, broncos, storm, rooster, manly etc

I really hope they don't let Lyon play in Sydney - let him play for Canberra if he wants to - they are going to really smell next season anyway!

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I keep hoping that he'll return for the Eels....

I also hope he will return as 5/8th for the eels but wishful thinking...

In the tigers forum, they mentioned he was out at the tigers camp for 2 days and staying with Pat Richards.

I wouldn't mind if he joined the Central Coast or Gold Coast though..

Whoever he plays for I wouldn't mind making a huge "Go Back to Wee-Waa you Traitor" banner and take it to the respective home game next year. It's the least I can do.
