UTC with the agreement of the RFL have decided to defer their entry into SL by a year . This is to give them more time to get their finances and their team in place .

Supposedly its more to do with getting their stadium up to scratch, but I think it's more in line with what pom said.

This one is a big worry. The official word is now "2006 at the earliest". That suggests to me that its not going to happen. I can't see what will change in 12 months, and the longer they go without making the move the less likely it becomes.

What League needs is the odd eccentric millionaire to step in and hold these kind of teams afloat until they can walk on their own two feet.

Paris St Germain did fine for a while, but the financial stability was never there. If someone could come in with enough money to get France's finest playing for them instead of Union, then perhaps we could see them.

It's disappointing but better late than never I say. And if it means they will hit the ground running in 2006 instead of the mediocrity the Warriors gave us in NRL for 5ish years than good luck to the Catalans.

Does this leave the door open for Bridgend to lodge their bid to get a team from Wales into SL in 2005?

No it does not. And nor should it after the way Brigend handled the biggest RL Test of thei history. I know marketing the Test is the resposnsibility of the Wales RL but there wasn't even a sign on the "upcoming matches" board at Brewery Field.

Also I am of the opinion that if a Welsh team wants to enter RSL, they should progress through the ranks of NL.
