It's a bit up in the air really. I would say the top drivers are post just as much if not more than the top NRL players (including endorsements, etc).

There was an article a while ago that said drivers like Lowndes, Murphy and Skaife all earnt over $2 million a year. The drivers cracked the sh*tes big time saying that the figure were grossly inflated and that they make nothing close to that much.

I have heard around the traps that the top drivers are paid between $500k and $800k.

Cheers Gambler. $500-800k is what I thought they'd be getting though $1 million plus per season shouldn't be out of the question, seeing there is only 30 or so drivers out there week in week out, compared to all the players having to be payed in league teams and AFL.
V8 Supercars is huge in this country too isn't it?

I'd like to think say Paul "the Rat" Radisich is on at least $200,000 a year but he's probably really on only $50,000 a year. Joke.

2 million a year is good dough.

alot of the figures thrown in the media are over inflated.
The drivers used to earn more a few years ago than what they do now.
Lowndes and Skaife in the early 00's are a great example.

Alot of teams are struggling financially, sponsors are harder to come by and the production and sales of cars over the past few years also contirbute to the Holden and Ford owned teams.

It never fails to amaze me just how much money there is in V8 racing. The team budgets, driver salaries...Its something other sports should take a close look at. The basket case that was the australian touring car championship turned into the darling sport in the country.

Just goes to show what happens when you give the fans what they want.

To say that the championship has declined slightly in monetary terms is a point that is going nowhere imo. The world car industry is in utter turmoil, the US are literally bailing out their entire industry to the tune of 13 billion dollars. So a little decline in team budgets, sponsorship and pay packets is probably not that bad. In saying that, people will still want cars, and they'll still by brands that are in their forefront, Ford and Holden learnt that lesson many years ago.
