Better than losing them to Union, VFL or SL.

At least this gets the NRL some brand exposure (instead of the other comps using the NRLs profile to promote themselves)
Oh I see, like when Hayne was over there and they promoted rugby, that was good exposure.

Looking forward to hearing from the NFL brigade about their athletes are incomparable and how Holmes has no chance.
It's kinda true though. Just the basic genetics of African Americans. And when there's millions of them backed by loads of money and the highest quality coaching & facilities - well let's just say that Val has his work cut out.

There's a reason the USA dominate the short distance track events...

Now don't get me wrong I wish him well and *insert multiple good luck mate comments*... but the assertion that American athletes are the elite of the elite is grounded in fact, not sensationalism.

That must be why Jamaica serves them up steaming ass whoopings for the last decade.

The US haven’t had a non-drug cheat sprinter in men’s track since like the 90s

That's also why they dominate long distance running too. And soccer/football.

Soccer/football is a skill based sport. Athleticism is a distant 2nd factor. See Usain Bolt as proof.

And African Americans are predominantly sprint/power based athletes.

If it makes the knickers in a twist crowd feel any better, the Yanks - for all their athleticism - would struggle to adapt to Rugby League just as much at the same late stage.

In fact more so imo because it's a more skillful sport across the board.

Now AFL on the other hand... it's been proven that any old merkin can play that sport if they can run around all day like an outback camel. Zero skill and average anglo athleticism is the requirement.

Also Africa is a huge and diverse continent.

The Sub Saharans and to a lesser extent North Africans dominate the long distance running. And that's purely due to their genetic adaptation to their environment.

The slave trader ports I presume were in West Africa where Africans are of a much bigger build - hence why the Nigerians and Ghanaians make good sprinters.

It's not that he's not physically capable. It's that he's built for an attrition sport, rather than an explosive one like the NFL. A year of training should get him in shape for that no problem.

Yes, he could learn the plays and intricacies of the sport too.

But the main reason why people doubt he'll make it, just like with Jarryd, is that why would any franchise take a risk on someone who has never had anything to do with the sport? When they could sign one of the hundred free agents who have played it, or draft a college player? All of whom are as much of an athlete as Holmes.

I hope he succeeds.
This are all very good points.

I was more referencing the types who believe that NFL players are the only amazing athletes. The ones who say that the 190kg bloke whose job is to be fat and stand in people’s way is faster than any footy player.

Our sport has a stupid name. You will get no arguement from me on that fact.

But is the best solution to stop advertising? Or is there a better way to fix that problem?

Drop the word Rugby from the games name. Call the game Super League.

Good luck to him. He's achieved some good things in his career:

Won a Premiership
Represented state & country
Scored a tonne of tries despite having Gal as a no7
Remained likable even though he's a Shark

A tremendous athlete with a lot of work in front of him to make the grade but I hope he kills it. And if he ends up back in the NRL, at least he had a go. No shame in that.

It’s a hell of an achievement being likeable playing at that mob. Deserves a knighthood for that alone.

Advertising what exactly? That we have athletes who can transfer to the nfl? That’s a horrible idea

Also the Americans don’t give a stuff about league, never have and never will.
