A true gentlemen and good enough player to have captained and coached his club, city, state and country.

No indiscretions in a long and distinguished career.

As said above unlucky to play in an era of the most irresistible force ever seen in club rugby league otherwise he possibly gets a few premierships.

Played well above his weight and gave his all well deserving of being remembered among the elites of the golden era where what happened on the field stayed on the field.

Plenty of your old cohorts to have a beer with now so well played Golden Boots.

His retirement as well as Eric Simms from the game was the end of an era for Full backs. You had to be a solid defender, good under the high ball , arrange defences and generally be the main goal kicker. BUT very rarely joined the back line for an attacking move. The first Australian test fullback to score a try was in 1954 , after50 years of test football !

Amazing to think of the great players who wore number one after him such as Langland, Eadie, Jack, Slater etc. who compare very favourably with golden boots and certainly exceed him with ball in hand.
