HULL KINGSTON ROVERS MOURN A CLUB AND GREAT BRITAIN LEGEND
9th January 2007
Peter Flanagan
It is with deep regret that the club have learned of the passing away of legend Peter Flanagan, an inspirational player for both club and country in the 1960s and 1970s.
Peter, who died aged 65, was more commonly known as flash in and around the game due to his lightening pace and general style, and he will be remembered as an extremely popular and versatile player.
Hull KR Chairman Neil Hudgell said: Flash joined the club in 1959/60 from Craven Street youth club. With a natural flair for the game he played 414 times for the Robins and represented Great Britain on three tours to Australia. It really is a tragic and sudden loss to his family, many friends and the wider rugby league community. Flash was and remains a legend of this club and he will be sadly missed. He was held in very high regard and, is talked about with a great deal of affection by all those who knew or had heard tales of Flash, and his exploits on the field. His presence will equally be missed in and around the streets of the city and east hull. We intend to honour his contribution to this club in a lasting way and we will do that in consultation with his family and those who knew him best when the time is right. For now our deepest sympathies are with those closest to him at such a sad time".
In his day it has been reported that Flash was widely recognised as the best hooker in the English game, not only a special player but a true gentleman that everyone warmed to, both on and off the field he held a professional presence.
