Actually, while watching a lower grade trial game a few weeks ago, Mick Potter was one of the commentators and it was stated that Mick is employed as a staff member of SGI. So it seems that Potter is working at SGI in some capacity.

Exactly this.
At that time also, there was the talk of a swap deal between Barba at NQ and Holmes at the Sharks.
With Barba out of the picture now my quess, if he returns to NRL, will be to the Cowboys.
Ths other point here, is that Holmes wont be the player he was when he left the NRL. His body shape, muscle mass and development would have been altered for life playing NFL.
Maybe a huge expense before he comes right again (aka Hayne).
