TV viewing boost for engage Super League
20th April 2007
Television viewing figures for engage Super League are currently at an all time high level after seeing a healthy increase at the start of the 2007 season.
Figures for Sky Spots exciting and innovative live coverage of this years competition are up almost 12% on the record average figure set by the 2006 campaign.
In addition to this, the Super League Show broadcast throughout the North of England by the BBC is also reporting an excellent response to its programme and regularly attracts almost a 13 % share of the TV audience for the time of day it is broadcast.
Commenting on the figures, the RFLs Commercial Director Paul Kimberley said: These figures show the growing appeal of engage Super League as a television property.
The highly competitive nature of the League this year is already delivering record crowds at our stadia and this news about increased television viewers also shows that more and more people are becoming regular followers.
Kimberley added: The thrilling spectacle provided by engage Super League is complemented by Sky Sports new coverage of the Co-operative National Leagues. This exposure combined with the BBCs coverage of the Carnegie Challenge Cup means that there is now more Rugby League available to the TV viewer than ever before.
Kimberley concluded: As the season continues, so will the excitement and both supporters attending live matches and arm-chair fans alike have a great deal to look forward to.
We get double the number of viewers as union, advertisers are charged more for RL broadcasts than union matches, and we are Sky's 2nd best rated sport (after football). And yet we get paid peanuts for the tv rights. The RFL really need to have some balls and force the issue. The current tv contract with Sky finishes at the end of the 2008 season. Now if the RFL can't use these figures to get a massive increase in payments then they should all be sacked and replaced by monkeys.
