They didn't care if they survived or not. All they cared about was keeping the status quo in Sydney. Only a biased New South Welshman who has their head buried in the sand cannot understand that the way Arthurson and Quayle went about expansion and how they favoured Sydney teams between 1995 until 1998 set the game back 30 years. Why would they invite 4 clubs in to send them broke.
lol, that’s some dumb sht right there! You think a perth club would be stronger if it was an existing nrlwa club promoted rather than a club appealing to the whole whole state, being fed jnrs nt the whole state and run by squillionaires? Doh!but where is the club in perth putting fwd their bid to join the ranks of 1st grade .. they are are all seperate entities, and we as fans look to the media to hear what their plans are, but in reality fans expect the NRL to implement a team there.. and thats just not going to happen, you already need to be a club, running a rugby league team, then these folks at the arlc will hand you a license, they are not looking to set you up in a foregn market, coz if it fails its on them, but if you as a bidder have an already established club in Fremantle called perth pumas, and are boasting however many juniors etc they'll look at that moreso
sure that wasn’t their intention. maybe it was the only way to get existing clubs to agree, maybe they thought the new clubs could afford it, maybe they were dumb as dogsht when they added a third side to the expense bill at the 11th hour. Who knows? Would make for an interesting question to those involved though. Why would they invite 4 clubs in to send them broke.
It would end up being the club for the whole state or region by default, similar to dolphins being a club for its northern corridor regionlol, that’s some dumb sht right there! The West Coast Pirates tick all the boxes laid out by the NSWRL loyalists on here. They are a club that has existed for years and fielded a team in the NSW SG Ball competition prior to COVID-19. They have all of WA to recruit players. No need to saddle up with the Bears.lol, that’s some dumb sht right there! Also one that wouldn't be able to compete with the bottom teams of the 1st grade competition, and gets belted 70 nil almost every game at SG ball level..The West Coast Pirates tick all the boxes laid out by the NSWRL loyalists on here. hahah i bet it would f**king trounce the sydney comp in all metrics.Time for Nth Qld, Broncos, Titans, Redcliffe, Storm and Warriors to form a breakaway league and invite Ipswich, Easts-Brisbane, Wynnum, Perth, Adelaide, Hunters and NZ2 to join
will they be called “THE“ as well? lolIt would end up being the club for the whole state or region by default, similar to dolphins being a club for its northern corridor region
Yep probably "The Bears"will they be called “THE“ as well? lol
Yeh. nothing says WA like THE Bears lolYep probably "The Bears"
The best wa kids go east, its run on a oily rag and the kids travel, alot. Yet we’re still producing nrl players. Some people, always look for the worst in a situation. Also one that wouldn't be able to compete with the bottom teams of the 1st grade competition, and gets belted 70 nil almost every game at SG ball level..
Yes they fit the bill, just aren't as competetive compared to the likes of NS bears or PNG hunters
Im not looking for a worst case scenario for Perth not to get a team, im saying whats currently there is not upto the standard of the lower grade clubs on the east coast, thats not to say that it wont get better... its just me saying top down approach is the only way you'll be getting a license in Perth any time soon... that means the pirates are not getting in, not now, not soon, and if the ns bears or easts tigers, or whoever else is willing to plonk themselves on the west coast to represent perth is the best chance at getting the next license then thats the top down approach that will strengthen the current pirates crop, thats a win, but it will be at the expense of perths own identity, personally i want perth to be in the NRL, but it cant be half arsed, you might have backers, and crowds willing to turn up, but if you're not competitive that won't last, and kids will continue to travel east regardless whether perth gives them the opportunity or not... have to get used to thatThe best wa kids go east, its run on a oily rag and the kids travel, alot. I think that's what the Superleague powerbrokers thought as well when they split from the ARL...hahah i bet it would f**king trounce the sydney comp in all metrics.
ARL had Newcastle and the Crushers to keep it afloatI think that's what the Superleague powerbrokers thought as well when they split from the ARL...
No but you are suggesting that our Pirates kids arent competitive in SG Ball and that somehow this means we cant produce talent and need an East coast team to move here. That's nonsense for the reasons I've stated. With a direct pathway we arent losing our best kids at 15-18 to East coast clubs like we are now, the U18's get much better coaching and training and increased RL presence and opportunity attracts kids to RL instead of Union. To suggest we should plonk an east coast team here because our current SG ball sides arent competitive in arguably the toughest U18's RL comp in the world is rubbish.Im not looking for a worst case scenario for Perth not to get a team, im saying whats currently there is not upto the standard of the lower grade clubs on the east coast, thats not to say that it wont get better... its just me saying top down approach is the only way you'll be getting a license in Perth any time soon... that means the pirates are not getting in, not now, not soon, and if the ns bears or easts tigers, or whoever else is willing to plonk themselves on the west coast to represent perth is the best chance at getting the next license then thats the top down approach that will strengthen the current pirates crop, thats a win, but it will be at the expense of perths own identity, personally i want perth to be in the NRL, but it cant be half arsed, you might have backers, and crowds willing to turn up, but if you're not competitive that won't last, and kids will continue to travel east regardless whether perth gives them the opportunity or not... have to get used to that
So the Dolphins have a strong junior base and loads of money...... so why do they feel the need to snatch all the up-coming talent at other clubs like the Panthers? Or take almost half of the Melbourne starting forward pack? Its a far cry from what the Dolphins were saying pre-acceptance into the NRL that if an existing club fell over they were ready to step in. The Dolphins system is a joke at the moment. It would end up being the club for the whole state or region by default, similar to dolphins being a club for its northern corridor region
The Crushers?ARL had Newcastle and the Crushers to keep it afloat
South’s and parra prob doEvery major rugby league market in Australia and New Zealand was forced into abandoning their long-standing local competitions to field a team in the NSWRL. There's nothing special about Sydney that means it shouldn’t have to abide by the same rules they forced on everyone else. The sooky double standards NSWRL fans display is vomit inducing and very low brow.
If you think what I said is "absolute nonsense" then disprove it.
I can provide data on television ratings and attendances to support my position.
Can you?
If we're going by financials then are you able to name one Sydney club that is able to generate $25m pa from attendances, merchandise and sponsorship?
Without the $13m each Sydney club gets from the ARLC pa then they wouldn't be able to pay their players and cover the costs of running a football club. They're lucky to make $10m-$15m from attendances, merchandise and sponsorship. Most of the NSWRL clubs have been playing out of dilapidated grounds that are 50 to 75 years out of date, yet their fans like to think of themselves as being more sophisticated than everyone else.
