You are correct, but the double standards here is f**kingunbelievable, tas govt spend 12million of our tax money on AFL, but if NRL do it, every cưnt and her dog has a bitch about it

Plus a few hundred million in fed funding to help upgrade two afl stadiums in Tasmania

When did PVL ask Cook for the $12m a year ?

This has only been made public pretty recently..

Unsure but AFAIK it wasn’t an additional sum of $120m just a redirection of already committed funds.

Likely happened 3 weeks ago during their meeting over there when they all went. PVL, Abdo, Beattie, Jones etc

That proposal was likely knocked back same time I caught with some colleagues in Sydney a few weeks back. Likely after it. There was a lot of other info that wasn’t disclosed, I didn’t ask it came up in a conversation over coffee tbh.

The actual figures aren’t definitive. It was mentioned to me $100m yet it was reported $120m and so on and so forth. But the meat and veg part of it lines up.

It's not double standards to be rational and have an understanding of reality.

I wouldn't know what funding afl gets, it's only via you and your mate Tiktok that I know anything about that sport. Thanks for nothing.
And do you not think that it's just as wrong that AFL is getting 12million per year for the next 12 years, and NRL is not getting the same treatment... you're all off your head

I did. And it was wonderful.

Off topic. But knowing you’re a Raiders fan thought you might appreciate it. There’s a few former Raiders from the late 80s/early 90’s involved in some capacity as colleagues or business partners with me.

Unfortunately old mate wasn’t in his office when I visited yesterday but I’ll try get a snap in next few weeks and hold a sign using your user name!

You must be livid at the afl with how much money they’ve gotten from govts more than any other Australian football code combined

The poor rate payers of Blacktown got them to build a stadium for them then they left for breakfast point when their players didn’t like the demographic of the area

Then got another 100 million for faculties in Homebush

Or how the afl is spending over one hundred million on the ground the afl owns at Docklands

And over 1 billion on an afl Tasmanian team

Governments shouldn't fund professional sport and their facilities. The problem is they insist on doing so. The training facilities and coes in particular getting funding is a f**king joke...whatever code.

Stadium funding is a little different as these are typically state assets and used for multiple sports and events as tourism draws. Il

Docklands is a different thing. It's funding arrangement is based on the Victorian government securing the grand final for another 20 years.the agreement also requires the AFL allow other sports to use it for the next 30 years.
The NRL will receive similar funding from states for grand final hosting rights.

The stadium in Tasmania was put forward by the Tasmanian government as a recommendation in their business case and the AFL said yeah ok we'll take it then.

I hate government funding of professional sport, including the AFL, but it's not going to stop happening. The NRL are well within their rights to try and get what they can.

All I'm saying is that the situation is not the same.

I also think that current bidders might be looking back at the dolphins and asking why so much is being expected of them comparatively in terms of license fees and grassroots funding.
It's exactly the same, and if they don't pay up, they ain't getting squat... no matter how chummy Roger Cook is with PVL... seems that AFL once again is trumping the code war, as if they aren't flush enough with cash, to afford their expansion

Wouldn't know what afl are getting. And certainly not going to get upset about it.

Bully for them.

Thanks again for informing me about a sport I don't care about. They should pay your a commission for advertising their sport.
As if you care about RL, if you did you'd want the ARLC get the same treatment for their expansion plans... not let AFL skate by taking our tax payers money for their sport, it's a fkn rort... and if that gabba stadium precinct gets up, the AFL have again swindled the govt, at the expense of RL or moreso Suncorp, which btw is probably the best RL stadium hands down, and could be even better with an upgrade, in both capacity and facilities

To me, the biggest revelation of this whole story that’s come out is that this cash was for Junior infrastructure development pathways and not actual club start-up costs.

Which likely has it back to front and it’s the NRL’s 50 mil that’s actually going to start up and the W.A. government 100+ mil that’s going to Development pathways and infrastructure.

Is it unreasonable to have 10 million a year going into a state to develop their junior systems and try get it up to a standard that closely resembles NSW or QLD or NZ in as quick of the timeframe as possible? Realistically only heavy funds could achieve such a goal.

I'm not in your competition to be the bestest rugby league fan eva!

I do find it curious that so called league fans know so much about afl.

Melbourne agreed to fund juniors there as part of the reward for taking origins and test matches there
