So all people complaining about govts spending on ovals for AFL should stop as they are also used for other sports so not AFL funding only.
No one is arguing that it should stop. If that’s your take away, you’re not understanding the discussion.

Maybe they should be on central coast and the NRl can stay in its east coast myopia.

Can't think any situation where a govt has spent hundreds of millions on a stadium and says it's only to be used by 1 sport.
The closest I can think of is the last time the Bears had a stadium built for them and the only ones who ended up using it for a home ground were the Mariners..

I am sure the business case for the central coast stadium did not say it was only to be used by the Bears.

Unless I have misunderstood the argument here, people are saying because other sports will also benefit from upgrading HBF it should not count as part of the WA government's commitment to attracting an NRL team.

You’ve misunderstood it.

This argument is just plain dumb …you are comparing two different things …

The WA Govt also is paying the NRL $5m for Origin games ... including one in 2025 …also I assume they pay for the NRL games that take place in Perth every year ..
People said the wa govt doesn’t like giving money directly to clubs

That’s just bs

As I said maybe the bears should be based in north Sydney then sell those home games to Perth like north Melbourne do

The argument is pretty simple ..

the upgrade will improve a Govt owned asset and several codes will benefit in addition to the NRL club …

It’s not $300m being spent on the new NRL club …

Im not underselling it …it will be great for the Bears … but it’s an investment in a govt owned asset to benefit the Perth community
does it happen without an NRL club? No. End of argument.

Then it isn't for NRL. It is an investment for rectangle codes and the concerts that use it.

NRL is providing extra content to make it viable to upgrade
Which they will charge rent on and generate tens of millions of tourism each year

But yet it’s for rugby league lol

Correct. That is the discussion

The NRL team cant tell anyone anything. Its a WA govt owned asset and they will ultimately decide what the design and money is spent on. But that has nothing to do with the fact that this investment in the stadium is tied directly to the proposed NRL club. No NRL club, no stadium investment.
It’s a wa govt owned asset

Exactly

The debate is as follows …

should the $300m being spent to upgrade HBF be considered money being spent by the WA Govt on the new Perth NRL team ?

Its a three year deal - 2m per year including a game in Bunbury outside of Perth as the WA Gov tries to promote tourism out in the region.
I saw mention of the Western Bears and regional WA in a release, probably part of the same Govt strategy.
Theres now direct flights to the SW from Melbourne so makes sense. Don't think the ground down there is up to much though.
