Reds Management Team progressing well:

Since announcing the new team in December the Reds management and support team has been working hard and has made some wonderful progress.
The new WA Reds logo has been confirmed as you would have seen when you clicked on the home page banner and we love it! We believe reflects a balance between recognizing history while also providing a fresh new look (and a good hunk of ferocity) as we head into the future. Hope you like it?
Foundation Membership applications are flooding in and we would expect their limited availability to be filled within the next few weeks (we are only allowing 500 at this stage).
Due to popular demand we have introduced an “Associate” Foundation Membership for people who live more than 500 kilometres from Perth and cannot easily attend games. Naturally we appreciate the support of these fans and want them to be on board and cheering our team.
We are also extremely heartened by the response we are getting from the corporate and business world. We have confirmed our team sponsor (to be announced soon) and we are working with a well known bank as another major along with a host of other sponsors at all levels.

Ah potential!!! Looks like we are heading in the right direction. Great news on membership applications (especially creating another class of membership), more members = more support = more chance of being accepted into NRL. Really interested in hearing who the sponsors are and their contribution to the levels of league in WA.

I love hearing good news articles about league. Not a big fan of the logo (although im not really a perth resident so it doesnt really matter. It looks abit comicy)

Look i know that ill get a few 'your an idiot' replies but this is the Perth city logo. Wouldnt a logo more along these lines be better (many english soccer clubs have these type of logos and they make it look more prestigeous). I also think the Perth Swans would be a better name for the team. The black swan is synomous with Perth, it has the Swan river, it gives it a local feel for the supporters and its not as if the Red Kangaroo cannot be associated with (and here comes the crazy talk) a 2nd WA team in the LONG term future. Dont want to change the topic of the thread though, just interested in getting a reply from Perth Red on this crazy idea.

Perth is an AFL town though. 'Swans' is already the name of a sports team they recognise, and not exactly a well liked one.

On topic, this is great news. Selling 500 memberships so quickly, and still almost a year before they kick off (in a 3rd tier competition) is pretty impressive. Especially considering those memberships cost exactly 2.5 times as much as my '07 Raiders season ticket membership did.

With the NSWRL's announcement of creating an open-age competition similar to the Queensland Cup, do you WA Reds fans think that the Reds should still be aiming for the JBC next year or go for the Premier League Replacement?

JBC is still the way to go. I'd be questioning if they should look at joining the new PL comp instead of the QC in a few years.

Im a firm believer in the slow and steady approach. If we through them into a comp where they are out of their depth in skill, they will lose. To have strong support for the team they need to be able to win and compete with the best teams each week. So sure id suggest putting them into PL but only when they have some experienced players and quality juniors/players. Hell id like to see them have teams in both comps so that they can promote players from JBC to PL when a player is out injured.

It might only take them one year in JBC to get that but i reckon thats where they need to start.

I like a traditional logo but in our Americanised Australia of today the gimmicky logos, mascots etc are here to stay so I guess the WARL are just going with the rest of the NRL.

As said the Swans are too well known a team in WA where as many have never heard of the Reds (ARU) so there isn't the same clash problem.

Yes it is good news and with Ch9 continuing to show the Sunday game on in the afternoon it is all positive at the moment (well except for Gallops comments a couple of weeks back!)

Damn those sydney swans!
Ruin a perfectly good idea. Its not like Sydney is known for its swans. Perth is and therefore the name would actually mean something to the team and town. Unlike the Canberra Raiders, whats raiders got to do with the nations capital?!
Oh well just goes to show just how crap QLD Reds are... guess their not well known in WA.

Best part about the name WA Reds... the acronym W.A.R!

Why alienate the rest of WA by having a 'Perth' team? There are a load of fans of the game here in Kalgoorlie FFS! Plus Bunbury, Broome, Mandurah etc....

The STATE needs to be represented as the WARL have given the vision to, so leave at that please?

I know it wont change and i understand that the name is designed to represent the whole state. But people in other parts of the state will still support the team, just look at Brisbane Broncos in the past. Plus it would be great if 20 years down the track supporters in WA wanted a team in their area, ie, they say since the perth swans had one, why couldnt fremantle (just came up with first name that popped into my head, dont read anything into the choice of suburb).

The Sydney swans havent alienated other parts of the state, if you live in NSW your most likely supporting the swans (unless of course you hate AFL).

But dont worry, the names chosen and if a team in the NRL needs a name it would be chosen like the titans was, by a public vote through the newspaper, and that means majority rules. So Reds will be very popular and prob win (and i cant vote cause i dont live there :)
