Glory for Kiwis

MORE than 400 people packed into Rugby Park to celebrate New Zealand's traditional Waitangi Day on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the event being forced a week back due to last week's poor weather, the Kiwi spirit was well and truly alive and on show.
The afternoon kicked off in perfect weather, a little warm, but as the temperature cooled and the rugby heated up, the crowd continued to grow.
In the prelude to the much-anticipated New Zealand and Rest of world clash, the Kiwis performed the inspirational haka.
And it did wonders, with New Zealand getting off to a flying start to lead 15-3 at the half-time break, and eventually winning 37-3.
Mount Isa Rugby Union (MIRU) president Daniel Fualalo said it was a successful event.
"It was made a little bit harder due to it being postponed last week, but we've still got a nice crowd here and everyone's enjoying themselves so that's good," he said.
"The rugby match put on a good show, even though the score was a little one-sided."
To finish the night off, Mount Isa cultural group Matariki performed on stage and the celebrations went well into the night with DJs performing.
Waitangi Day commemorates a significant day in the history of New Zealand to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand's founding document, on February 6 in 1840.
See The North West Star's print edition for more on the event.

Wasn't sure where to put this.
Every year in the Isa this is a massive social occasion.
