Wakefield blew their chance

After their defeat to the Saints, Wakefield must be cheering on Harlequins at Castleford. If Cas win, Wakey are all but down. They have to play Bradford next week which they won't get anything from.

It was a massive failed opportunity for the Wildcats last night. They created plenty of problems for Saints during the game and I can honestly say they bombed a good 6 or 7 tries with the last pass/grounding. They should have won the game, but that I feel was their last chance as Bradford won't be in the party mood Saints were in. They also won't have Korkidas who was dismissed for headbutting Jamie Lyon.

Cas will know now that beating Harlequins would all but relegate Wakey.

I wouldn't rule a win over Bradford out. Cas might not win another game either. I still think it will come down to the last game when they play each other. Hope the Tigers do stay up though.

Shame to hear that Wakefield were playing OK footy, but being let down by their execution.

Cas have been playing like a rabble the last month by all reports. Unless something changes I could easily see Harlequins and Salford beating them, meaning it would all come down to to the final game with Wakefield.

I'd like to see Cas get two seasons in a row and build again from there rather than be stuck in the eternal rollercoaster. Cas have good support that has stuck by them through the tough times. If relegated Wakey could use that as a chance to set themselves up for the 2009 future, and seek promotion based on their academy strength - and commit to keeping most of them when they take the step back up.

Oops, how could I forget Huddersfield?

If Huddersfield don't win again and Wakey beat Bradford or Cas, then Hudds could go down!

I fancy them to beat Salford at home tomorrow though.

Wow, Cas got it together again when it counted. They'll want to stay 3 points ahead of Wakefield to make sure their final round match isn't a risk.

Huddersfield can make themselves a lot safer with a win over Salford... anyone know the last time a Cup finalised was relegated that season?

All still hinges on Wakefield's result each week, and particualrly whether they can snag a win at Bradford to stay in touch. They now have the same points difference as Huddersfield, so need to at least draw equal with them to stand any chance.

What about this scenario
Wigan win their last 2 matches against Harlequins and Hull FC therefore improving their for and against,
Warrington lose heavily to Hull & Saints.
they both end on 24 points and comes down to F&A.

Could happen... There's about 110 points difference between Wigan and Warrington now, so that works out an average margin acroos the four games of only 27ish - Wigan win their two games by a total of 55, Warrington lose their two games by a total of 55. Hmmm....

I'd love it if Wigan made the top six. I just think it would be extremely funny.

It would say alot for Brian Noble as a coach if they did (and alot more about Ian Millward...).

On form they deserve to be there, not even Saints fans could deny that.

A Robbie Paul try in the last minute against Salford surely now condems Wakefield to relegation.

They have to go Bradford and win and beat Castleford at home and pray all the other results go their way over the two weeks.

They've no chance IMO. It will be interesting to see how they cope with the step down a division. And more importantly where players like Solomona and their 14 half backs end up.

If Wakefield lose against Bradford it's all over with a round to go.Likewise,if Quins(v Wigan),Cas(v Salford) and Hudds(v Catalan) all win then Wakey will be gone even if they win(could still finish above Wigan on points difference but 60 points would be too much to make up IMO).

Solomona would be welcomed with open arms at Ericsson

Or anywhere I'd imagine. Depends whether he wants to stay here with a new club or use the relegation as a chance to head closer to home.

Met Solo in a shopping centre in suburbs of Sydney once. Very nice down to earth guy.
