Walsh turns back on lucrative payday.

Outgoing Warriors star Reece Walsh was reportedly denied the opportunity of a lucrative deal with the Dolphins due to "bad blood" between the two clubs.

Walsh confirmed last week that he would return to the Broncos next season after being granted a release from the Warriors due to personal reasons that required the 19-year-old to be near his family in Brisbane.

The Warriors gave Walsh permission to enter contract discussions with the Broncos – and only the Broncos – despite new NRL expansion club the Dolphins also interested and based in Brisbane.

According to NRL reporter Ben Dobbin, Walsh was only allowed to sign with the Broncos because of "bad blood" between Dolphins recruitment manager Peter O'Sullivan and his former employer the Warriors.

"The elephant in the room is Peter O'Sullivan because he was the recruitment manager there," Dobbin told Triple M.

"His son is Sean O'Sullivan and his son-in-law is Matt Lodge. All three aren't at the Warriors.

"There has obviously been some bad blood there and the falling out from there has been that."

Dobbin also revealed that Walsh missed out on double what he got for joining the Broncos.

"He was offered double the amount of money to go to the Dolphins," Dobbin said.

"The Dolphins had an offer on the table that was $700,000 and the Broncos had $350,000."

O'Sullivan served as the Warriors recruitment guru from mid-2018, before joining Wayne Bennett and the Dolphins last October as the club builds towards their first NRL season next year.

His son-in-law Lodge joined the Roosters after his messy exit from the Warriors in May, when he was abruptly released by the club and given a costly payout.

The Warriors front office said the falling out between the two parties had stemmed from an argument between Lodge and Warriors owner Mark Robinson in a pub late last year. Lodge later disputed that story.

Walsh will join the Broncos on a three-year deal from 2023 and will remain with the Warriors for the rest of the season.

Walsh doesn't care about any of that rubbish. He wants to be a Bronco. All of his bets mates play for the Broncos. This crap about the Warriors, bad blood, POS, Dolphins blah blah is a non story.

He went to CG and said the Broncos is where he wants to be.

He acts like he’s got the inside word and is best mates with Kevvie. He’s a one eyed Broncos & Australian fan. You wouldn’t know there’s other teams in the competition

Why did the club not play some hard ball like a strong club like Storm, no release until we benefit from it. Some piss weak management. He did the wrong thing, not the club.

By signing CNK, the club feels that they have benefitted in some way.

This reporter lives in fairy land if he thinks Walsh and his management team would cop a 350k a year decrease just because the Warriors were playing personal vendetta hard ball

What's a contract anyway? He could break it to join dolphin's before or during next season or 1-2 years into it.

It is the Broncos, they had Lockyer down on the salary cap at bargain basement price at the end of his career

I remember when Alan Langer came back to the Broncos from the UK his contract was registered with the NRL at 65k
But his 3rd party agreement was worth 380k with Jupiters Casino
Can’t remember the exact number reported on Lockyer but it had a 2 at the front of it for his last couple of years

Few years later Glenn Stewart and Manly agreed to a contact around the $250-300k mark and the NRL refused to register it at below market value and he ended up at Souths

A contract means nothing unless a player is holding the club to it.

Yeah true, he's probably being loaded up with paper bags and TPAs.

I reckon you guys will end up with TMM, it makes no sense for us to keep him. The delay is probably because he hasn't got a contract for 2023, so they probably have to conjure up a deal with TMM's management, rather than Broncos management

It's obvious to me why Warriors only wanted to deal with Brisbane, Dolphins have literally nothing to offer and if that was Walsh's preferred destination then it works perfectly for both parties. I don't know what we had to offer either, considering TMM is basically a free agent for next year

I think the clubs have a healthy relationship, we've given you guys a few over the years without anything coming back. Nikorima, Lodge (although that one was probably something the club pushed for), Walsh
