Wannstedt steps down

It's finally happened. The team has steadily regressed since Wannstedt was hired, from winning the division in 2000 to finally hitting rock bottom in 2004. Whilst changing coaches half way through a season isn't going to mean the team will suddenly go on a big winning streak, it's the right thing to do.

The season is gone and it's time to start preparing for the next season by giving some other players a go and finding out what they've got.
AJ Feely has already cost Miami a high second round draft pick so needs to play out the rest of the season and see if he can be the answer or if the team needs to spend it's first round pick on another QB.

Thanks Dave for the effort and for doing the right thing for the organisation. Good luck on your next job Dave.

Looks like DC Jim Bates will be the interim head coach. Hopefully when the season is over the Dolphins sign Charlie Weiss to lead Miami back to respectability.

I will never ever agree with a coach leaving mid-year as a good thing unless in an extreme circumstance such as a player revolt.

Miami just hasnt got the team, its not Wannstedt that should be the first one to take a fall

Sorry mate, gotta disagree. It's exactly Wannstedts fault that the Dolphins have been going backwards. It's time the slide was at least halted for the remainder of the season. Wannstedt did the right thing by falling on his sword.
Wannstedt has proven that he is not head coach material. He is a very good Defensive co-ordinated and will probably make an excellent college coach. But as NFL head coach, he simply hasn't got it.

Look for heralded college coach and failed former Redskins coach Steve Spurrier's name to be thrown around in the coming days for 2005/06.

As for this being all Wannstedt's fault, HELL NO, though he did not help the situation and the move for A.J.Feeley will go down as one of the worst in our football teams history.

I agree with Electrica, "Wannstedt did the right thing by falling on his sword.

.

I could not have said the above better myself.

Wannstedt will pick up a job in the league as a DC as he has a proven record in that dept. and I applaud him for 'falling on his sword' though echo the thoughts of Electrica, this IS NOT GOING TO TURN our season around with a 5 game winning streak or the like.

Whilst our defence is fighting admirably, NO TEAM can do anything in the NFL without the run and we, thanks to pot head Ricky Williams, do not have one in which the season was always going to be one of pain for Dolphins fans.

Hell...at least we have the HEAT and SHAQ!
