Warrington were god awful in the first quarter on saturday, and that's taking nothing away from Hull's performance in that period, where Paul Cooke was pulling all the strings. and pulling us apart in the process. I think Lee Briers visably upped his game and dragged the rest of the team with him after Clarke's 'show and go' try opened up the Hull line around the ruck. Some crucial interventions by Grose & Kohe-Love stemmed the tide.
Hull coughed up far too much ball in the second half, and Richard Horne's kicking games was as bad as Lee Briers' was good. As far as i can remember Hull only started one set of six in our half and that was through Chris Bridge throwing a pass into touch. Warrington's defensive effort was impressive, and seemed to stop a lot of the go forward Hull rely on to give Cooke the platform to work his magic. It seemed that Hull lost thier discipline with a lot of high shot being called against them in the second half.
For the amount of possession Warrington had i'm disappointed we didn't score more points, and credit must got to Hull for holding out for nearly 24 tackles in their own 20 at one point. I still think Warrington have another couple of gears to find as Martin Gleeson, Toa Kohe-Love have yet to hit the straps, we are yet to see what Paul Rauhihi will bring to the table when he starts firing. If these players do what they are capable of we should have a pretty intimidating pack with potentially one of the most devastaing back-lines to go with it.
I get the feeling this season could be another fun ride.
