The Warriors and Mavericks are close to completing a five-player trade that would bring forwards Eduardo Najera and Christian Laettner to Golden State and send centers Erick Dampier, Evan Eschmeyer and guard Dan Dickau to Dallas, an NBA source aware of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Golden State...no way is Damp worth that much...when he gets on a team that shots well he won't be anywhere near effective as he is on the shitty Warriors. Also good for the Warriors Cap wise.

( Isn't there draft picks involved as well?)

I think Dampier would give the Mavs the inside presence, low post D, and rebounding they've been missing.

Poor Laettner has sure been around, hasn't he?

He was one of the best college players of his era, but he's had a mediocre NBA career. I thought he might be another Kevin McHale when he came out of Duke, but it hasn't worked out. To his credit, though, he's had a long NBA career, including coming back from a torn Achilles.

ESPN magazine had an article last year about how Duke players never seem to live up to their college greatness. There are some very solid Duke grads in the NBA, but how many have been true superstars? I think Grant Hill was close before his ankle problems set him back.

Elton Brand has the potential to be a very good MVP candidate next season. He just keeps on improving with each year...
