 Love the bitterness.

I remember when the Dragons signed Bennett, back in 2008. That year we'd been beaten by Cronulla twice, we finished 7th and were dumped out in the first week of the finals. Cronulla finished equal first and reached the prelim. The Sharks signed Trent Barrett. Barrett chose Cronulla over the Dragons because, to paraphrase, "they were his best chance at winning a comp".

Now the Dragons have a premiership and the Sharks are a basket case.

 I get the bitterness

No bitterness here.
Grats u won the comp.
There are alot of people, not just sharks fans that think it's farked that the team coming first for 2 years running were allowed to sign a star player halfway through the season for peanuts, while backending huge payments.
It's not your fault, it's the NRLs ineptitude.

We had an NRL star return to his junior club after a short stink with a rival code...and that's a negative thing for our game?

Well I commend them, just as I would if Benji Marshall played AFL for a year and wanted back in at the Tigers half way through a season.

More quality players in our game the better, doesn't matter when they want in.

I honestly didn't make up my source. It's what I heard. We have Inglis because of Bennett.
Similar to some broncos supporters said when they got Folau , was because of Bennett.

Bennett ended up not coaching him at the broncos, instead Bennett ended up at the dragons

that was mentioned in the SMH article today - gees bunnies man are you quoting your "source" as Roy Masters or do you think none of us read the SMH?? and i thought it was Mundine who talked him into joining souths - clutch at straws yet again!

Mid 2010 - Dragons leading the comp with full roster close to cap.
Gasnier wants back in, you sign him for peanuts for the rest of that season cos a proper contract would put you over the cap, and you backend the contract knowing you can offload a few players and pay him his correct worth the following year.
So technically you were over the cap for however many games you played while u had The Toey Human on the books.

And you're right, every club would do it if they had the chance, I just think it's BS.
I and many others with me were dumbfounded when it was approved by Schubert.

So, you are suggesting his worth in the games he played for Saints in 2010 should be judged on his contract in the years that are to follow.
Fair enough, then lets apply that to an everyday situation.

How would you feel if the tax office decided that you will be locked in at a dollar figure tax rate on your current wage?
It would be f**king tops if you got a better job and started to make a sh*tload more money, but it would be a real bitch if you lost that job and had to take one for far less money and still be held at the same tax rate as your previous job.
You see where I am going with this?

Hence, the salary cap is a year by year proposition.
Gasnier played the games in 2010 for nix essentially, and he timed his games in a manner that would not put the club massively over the cap for the year 2010.
This is business, it was allowed under the rules and the fact Saints were leading the comp at the time was irrelevant, perhaps you'd like to take aim at the dogs for signing Tandy (errr, ahhhhhh, hmmmmmmmmmm) or any other number of mid to late season transfers that have occured over the last couple of years? (Newton to the $torm should be worthy of your criticism, as should be Finch to the $torm, McKinnon to Wests? etc etc etc), Saints weren't the only ones doing it, and looking at the storm analogy, they weren't the only ones to do it whilst leading the comp, they just didn't do it in a manner that could be described as cheating like the storm, which was adding when you had no room to move and adding when there was no cap space free the following year.

In fact it will be interesting to see how Saints go at audit time given they didn't really need to utilise a sh*tload of players throughout the year, barring a few games at Origin time.
It would be funny if they were actually under the cap.

at the broncos and wasnt coach by Bennett, even though there was claims he went there because of Bennett.

As bunniesman is saying inglis went to souths because of Bennett, it doesnt mean Bennett will be at souths.

Could be a similar situation as the broncos , inglis playing under a new coach but its not Bennett

Re Gaz.

His 2010 payment was - evidently - to the same formula as approved by the NRL for Lote @ WT. Money was different because Lote was available for more games, though they discounted some games from the formula to allow for a couple of injuries.
Don't forget that we started the year under the cap to allow some Gaz room. I think $300k before the trials, but one or two late signings grabbed a large hunk of that money.

Also, whatever happened to the Salary Cap rule that exempted RU players and players that were not playing league in Oz the previous year from the cap for their first year? or first year back?

If that rule has been scrapped then IMO the biggest rort was the rabbits with Sam Burgess. Current international on up and comers money, plus pepper corn rent to club owner for accomodation in ritzy suburb.... then they try to sneak GI in without cutting anyone!
Bloody rude if you ask me.

(But I may be a tad biased).
